Entire System for Sale

Added Dec 15: There are 8 professionally made Maple cabinet doors with european hinging on the system. So if you want them as well for building a stand you can have them. They could stand some sanding and recoating though.

I was diagnosed with an incurable non lifethreatening disease but extremely painful one a year and a half ago and it has continued to progress to the point where I can no longer care for my reef tank.

So after being in the hobby for about 30 years I need to call it quits. . . . and so I need to sell the entire system. I live in East Chilliwack and the person(s) who purchases the system will have to bring help with him to take the system apart as I can no longer assist much in anything physical.

The Tank is between 140 - 150 gallons. It's not quite 60" long but is 24" W x 24"H. It is a Hagen tank and it does not have Eurobracing but rather one glass brace across the middle. Glass has no scratches to speak of. I don't think there are any scratches. I was always careful about that. There are two bulkhead drilled in the bottom of the tank on one side of the tank as my tank was framed in wall between rooms. The system is predominately a SPS Tank. Though there are some LPS and some mushrooms and zoos that have grown back.

The system includes
Tank (with drilled bottom, plexiglass overflow with foam on it, looks great)
Mag 1800 return pump
Mag 1200 skimmer pump
DIY Injector skimmer (built as per plans found on net, works fine)
DIY Plexiglass sump (approx 40 gallons)includes Kent float valve and numerous baffles and areas for filter materials.
Heater (I think 300 watt)
2 - Son Agro 430 watt ballasts (great for european bulbs, radiums, 20K & 10K) (The reflectors I have are nothing special, you might want to get some nice ones)
175watt Hamilton ballast and mogul w/reflector
PFO retrofit for VHO lighting up to 2 bulbs - 110 watt each
Either one or two brand new 10k XM 400 watt bulbs will be included.
Pinpoint pH meter
Aquatic Essentials Calcium reactor with 10lb tank, etc. (solenoid needs replacing) but that is only needed for power outages. The mag7 pump could be replaced as well with maybe a mag 3.
Seio powerhead (It's a big one, I forget off hand which size)
Algae Magnet.
Various plumbing, fittings, tubing, included.
(I have a basically brand new SCWD kicking around I could throw in too, if I can find it and you want it)

Yellow Tang
Cleaner Wrasse (eats, flakes and everything else)
Breeding pair of common clowns (spawn every two weeks)
Regal Tang (eats like a pig and still growing)
3 Bangaii Cardinals **** (might keep them for my daughters tank)

LPS
Frogspawn - green with pink tips
Hammer coral
Torch coral - long tentacles brown with nice bright yellow tips
Turbanaria
(might have missed something)

Softies

Purple Mushrooms attached to overflow
Some other mushrooms around
Corky finger (I think that's what it's called)
Some green star polyps
one has overgrown into a gorgeous SPS coral <grrr> It's needs to be pruned back. Unfortunately I can't do this anymore.
Some various zoos have popped up here and there in the reef

Probably 100lbs of rock. Not too sure. I started with way more but kept pulling more out as more space was needed over the past 4 years for my sps which was growing like mad.

One beautiful blue Crocea Clam

SPS

1 Purple milli is getting huge
I have a gorgeous dark blue one and a teal and some other blues
Some other various colors
Large bright green monti cap
Fairly large brown with some purple monti cap
Pink birdsnest
Fairly Large Green hydnophora
Green Digitata (I might have some orange and purple left too, not sure)
These things need to be fragged again as they are getting big
There are some others that are escaping my mind.

I've hardly done a thing with this tank for 6 months. There are a few tufts of algae that will easily be taken care of with dismantling and setting up again. It just needs some hobbyist to put some time into it. Don't get me wrong the tank overall looks good. But I'm used to my old standard and what it can look like. But my hands and arms don't work well, so I have been forced to neglect it.

**Remember there is no stand with this system as this was an in wall system**

***Newly Added*** You can have all my professionally made MAPLE cabinet doors if you want to help you make a stand if you like. That's 8 doors with european hardware.

The system is still running and is waiting for someone to take it home. I really don't look forward to that day. But it's for the best for these beautiful creatures.

$2000 and it's yours could be a nice Christmas present.
I just want to get this system out ASAP

I want to sell the system in it's entirety. I don't have the energy or strength to sell things separately. I need someone who will take the entire system off my hands at once.

Thanks, Bill

Sorry to here your condition is getting worse,
If it wasn't so close to Christmas , I would be there in a snap, as I just sold my 210 a few months ago and regret doing it.
For those interested this is a Great deal ! The SPS corals are fabulous and are probably worth the two grand alone.
Bill, good luck with the sale but I know how tough it will be to see your beautiful set up go. I wish I could come up with the two grand and I'd be there

I wish I had the cash too. It sounds like a great system. I have 4 kids that take all of my spare cash right now. Whoever gets this system is sure getting a great deal though. All the best to you......Darryl

Thanks for your concern. I appreciate it. The RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) is so painful and is now in all 4 of my limbs. I think I take like 13 different medications for it. I now walk with a cane full time and any walking beyond 10 minutes requires me to be in my wheelchair. The side effects of the meds suck, my weight has ballooned up too because of the medications and now I've got problems with my liver and possibly will need a biopsy. For now they are going to ultrasound it next week and go from there. Most days I can only type for 10 minutes and then my hand seizes up too much with pain to continue as well. . . . so I try to type as fast as I can.

To give you an idea of how bad the pain is with RSD. . . the McGill Pain Index ranges from zero to fifty. Here are some rankings for example:
Chronic Back Pain - 25
Childbirth - 33
Amputation of a digit - 40
RSD - 42

As of now there is no pain disease that is more painful than RSD. My specialist calls it the most nasty disease. Anyways, enough of that, but you can see why I have to call it quits with my aquarium. Boy it's gonna be hard to part with this thing. Personally I think it's a gorgeous tank and I've priced it for a quick sale.

Bill

I'll bet your going through withdrawal or sellers remorse.

Yeah it's a real bummer that my disease has progressed. I have Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy and it has spread into all four limbs. RSD is the most painful disease of chronic pain diseases. Here's the McGill Pain Index that shows that RSD also known as Causalgia is the highest Pain diseases.

http://www.rsdhope.org/images/pages/44/mcgill.gif

I'm on so many medications and their side effects are quite bothersome too. I just had some other tests done and it looks like I've got some liver disease and will get an ultrasond next week and later possible a biopsy just to confirm just what's going on with my liver. Lately it feels like I can't catch a break. But I've got a lot of faith and I know I'm not fighting this by myself.

But I sure hope that someone will buy my tank soon as it is a bit of a stress to me. I can't look after the tank by my standards any more and it show which is horrible.

So anyone that reads this post, please pass the information around about my tank. I would really appreciate it. It really stresses me out having the tank now. . . and stress is the worst thing for my disease. I hate to part with it, but it has to be done. . . Bill

hmmmmm, no takers or much interest shown. Anyone care to venture an opinion why? too close to Christmas? price too high (hard to believe), too much money to spend right now?

I just have a hard time believing that there just isn't anyone really emailing me asking about it or offering a price or something.

Honestly guys, the only reason I'm getting rid of this is due to my health and I just can barely do anything with the tank. I hate this as I don't want algae to grow or any corals to suffer. I really need to get rid of this tank as much as I have loved this thing but it needs to go to a home where someone else can enjoy and maintain it. I hate so much that my arms and legs don't work like they use to and that the pain is so bad. Isn't there anyone out there that could buddy up with some guys and maybe someone take the hardware and another the livestock or something. I used to make and sell lots of frags. This system has been very good to me.

I hate to sound desperate, but I'm getting to that point. The tank is getting to look way below my standards. Don't get me wrong there are nice corals in there but some aren't as colorful and there are a few tufts of hair algae. I can't do water changes anymore. I can't carry the pails. I really could use some help from some guys in the Lower Mainland and just come up with the funds and take it off my hands. Normally I would have charged a bit more, but I thought this was a very fair price to offer. If you feel you have a creative counteroffer, please email me.

Please help a long term reefkeeper become an ex-reefkeeper. Again this is only because of my disease that I'm doing this.

Merry Christmas everyone
Bill

Hey Bill,

Sorry to hear about your situation. I don't have the space or cash but if you need a hand to clean it up I would be glad to lend a hand to help with some maintenances.

I dont think your price is too high at all. I think the biggest problem is the time of year. I know you dont want to part the system out but it may be the best way. Perhaps an on-line sale of all the items listed and have it on the condition that until the majority is sold the stock is to stay in place. Maybe some of the senior members can make some suggestions. I wish I had the cash and the space and it would be a slam dunk. The only other thing I could suggest and would definately be a last resort would be to see if a pet store would be interested, but I think you would take a big hit on the system.
Wish I could give you a really great idea, but I dont see any at this point.
Good luck..Darryl

I agree it's probably to do with timing. The price is good. The set-up is sound.

As I said in my pm, I'd be more than willing buy some items off you if you do decide to split it but wont be around much until end of Feb.

I could probably use the most of the hardware & live rock but would need some help finding homes for some of the fish & inverts.

If anyone could help out let me know.

Bill, let me know what you decide...

Also, good to see so many Chilliwack reefers out there too. Seems like I moved to a reef-lovin' town ;)

I've spoken to Bill a few months ago and it is very difficult for him to part out because of his RSD. With people visiting him to get one item here and there will cause his condition to flare up. I believe this is the reason he needs or wants to sell it together.
Bill
I can't imagine the pain you are going through right now. I hope things work out for you. I believe the price is good but its just a bad time of the year for this. Good luck :)

Hi Chin,

That's why I'll need a helping hand...

So I and whoever can help out, can get together & do everything in one go rather than people visiting for weeks on end picking up items here & there.

My Situation is this:

- I'm shopping for a reef set-up.

- I'm not around much between now & end of Feb so can't take the whole tank, set it up & have everything fully running until then.

- I wanted to build & design my own system but I also want to help Bill out & so I've changed my mind & could design my set-up around his system instead.

- I could probably take most of the kit & live rock & get it up & running temporarily but, I wont be able to look after fish & inverts until after Feb.

- I'm also new to Canada so I don't know many people well enough to have helping hand with logistics & lifting.

Other than that, I would help Bill out right away.

If anyone can help out let me know,

VFX.

I feel really bad for you, I couldn't imagine how hard it would be to not be able to do things you used to be able to do. I hope people in BC are able to help you out. I think the price is great, just a bad timing. Good luck to you
