You might pickup this month's issue of Coral magazine. Their feature this month is on the goby/shrimp partnership and how difficult it is to replicate in an aquarium.

I think their advice is to find a shrimp with similar colour to the goby, then hope it works out. They advise that it probably won't. One or the other may become a meal.

why would they become a meal ? Do they eat them sometimes?

I have a Yellow watchmen goby and a pistol shrimp and they get along very well. They are not even close to the same color and have been together for about 6 months or so.

I have an Orange spotted gobie as well. He is housed with a skunk shrimp and a scarlet shrimp.
He ignores them both but they chase him around to clean him now and then.

I've had two pairs of symbiotic shrimp and gobies, both of them I looked and looked until I found ones that had been wild caught and already showed signs of a partnership.

Yes, If they don't get along you end up with only one of them.and don't presume to know which will eat the other.

Coral magazine is mainly sold at LFS.
