View Full Version : need help identifying (maybe starfish)

i saw one of these critters in the sump a few weeks back on a piece of liverock, havent seen it in a while, now today while examining my tank i find another one in the display!

my phototaking abilities are lacking, and this was the best pic of 5 before my batteries died in my camera.
looks to be some sort of starfish, and i was hoping i could get help identifying.
the tank that the majority of the liverock came from did have chocolate chip starfish, could it be a baby?

Not likely a baby CC, but could be an Asterina sp. star (pretty common). :)

Looks like an asterina, watch them carefully they can eat corals or just be harmless. They can also multiply like crazy to plague proportions.

Yep Asterina. I remove any I see. I don't like starfish in tanks smaller than 100 gallons. They eat too much good stuff.

well once corals become an option i may remove the ones i find, but for now i think i'll let them be (unless like stated they multiply to mass proportions)
