Hey I'm just look to start some discussion on Magnesium dosing. Such as Different ways, what additive are you using, method of delivery ect. I'm looking to start adding it to my tank. It seems to be the one thing lots of people skip, but on the flip side you always see really nice setup and there dosing Magnesium. Also what effects can be expected from dosing. I have been told that zoevit has a media to add to a calcium reactor anyone using this method?

Good/popular product fr littlesilvermax (http://216.187.96.54/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=26590&highlight=magnesium). Easy to use, was worried when started out about chloride buildup though seems not a concern (see here (http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-07/rhf/index.php)).

As for ZeoMAg or dolomite had started a thread here (http://216.187.96.54/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=36186&highlight=zeomag) though there was another thread (http://216.187.96.54/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=34374&highlight=zeomag) already but seems to work in a Ca reactor when mixed at 10% to regular Ca media.

Only been on the Mg for a couple of months but I'm finding, since initially getting my Mg up in the system over a few days, able to maintain just by ensuring water used for changes is supplemented (haven't had to add to display) as new water was low from the start.

Can't get on the site now but for supplementing here's good http://reef.diesyst.com/

Only effect I've noticed is easier to keep the CA up (no negatives yet).

Never had to supplement until I switched over to the larger grade calcium reactor media (Schuran) and was using IO (low Mg levels). Now I'm using zeomag in my reactor, works like a charm and keeps my levels at about 1290ppm.

I'm just about to try UltraMag. You just put it in your reactor and away you go.

I have used seachem mag to dose and has worked well . I have just started a calc reactor this weekend with ultra mag in it.

I find a lot depennds on what salt you use.

If your salt is low on magnesium (and yes, I consider 1200 ppm to be low, NSW is closer to 1380 or so) then you need to add a lot to your water used for water changes.

If your salt is good, but your magensium still slides due to lower water change schedule/heavy use of kalk then you can either manually dose or do some of the other methods like adding media to your calcium reactor.

Don't look to calcium reactor additions to raise your magnesium, you will grow old waiting.

FWIW manual additions can be the most economical.
