I am thinking of having a custom tank made by saltwater connection. They use starfire glass, and the price seemed reasonable. Has anyone had a tank built by them? Any advice?
The tank will be a 380ish gallon 92" x 32" 30" tall.

Jayson's been around forever and has made a few tanks. I'm sure it will be fine. :)

Thanks
It won't be for a while yet (as we are doing a major renovation) but I am very excited.

I've had Ewing at Fish Gallery make me several tanks, and quality has been top notch. And has always been cheaper then quotes I go from Jayson.

I would rethink Star fire Doug on this board had a 180 made and when it was ready to clean the tank out from the fresh water we ended up scratching the glass really bad .. IM starfire sucks for the money that it was I would just settle for normal glass

Thanks for the thought, I had really not noticed a great deal of difference with the starfire glass. Plus it will be an in wall tank, so there is only one viewing side. I was questioning paying the extra money for it. Does anyone else have an opinion on the starfire glass?

I had a starfire tank owner ask me if my reg glass tank was starfire. I guess if you keep the glass clean, and water quality good, sometimes even the starfire people can't tell the difference.

Big tank, thick glass.

You should see both a starphire tank and a regular glass tank of the same glass thickness that you are planning to get "in action" before deciding. Generally speaking: the thicker the glass, the bigger the difference with starphire that I've seen.

Hi. Welcome to Canreef.

I have had several tanks made by Jayson, as large as 225g and all were top quality. Several of my friends also have one of his tanks. As for the starfire, Jayson did build me a 180g cube shape with a starfire front. The cost was not much more.

It certainly was not as green and a bit clearer. 1/2in. glass though and not 5/8th. which I assume will be the minimum for yours. However as Mike mentioned, we scratched it easier than regular glass would scratch, so if doing starfire, be aware when cleaning, thats all. I think we had some grit in the cleaning cloth.

I do have a smaller 45g cube done by Ewing, and it was good work.

I just picked up my second custom tank from him, absolutely nothing but great work.
