I finally finshed the last of my lighting set up yesterday.

Here is how it all works:

2x 3' NO Actinics on WH7 (2 wires each tube) 10am-10pm
1x 400w 20k Radium (soon to be run on SA430) 11am-9pm
1x 175w 10k Ushio on PFO ballast (high noon) 2pm-6pm

Here's a shot with the hood open:

I feel that this combination is visually appealing as well as great for coral growth and colour. I had originally run the set up with just the halides, but I added the actinics as they bring out some extra fluorescing pigments in the corals. They also help simulate the dusk to dawn effect.

Next step of the game is X10.. Anyone wanna combine an X10 order?

8) Adam, very nice picture. :D
Did you get rid of one of the Radiums? I thought you had 2. And... do the actinics really make a difference? I am not sure if we actually need them. We have the 2x 400w Radiums. Andy is thinking of changing the Radiums from perpendicular to horizontal and getting daylight and moon bulbs.

you know Adam, if you had two 175's you could put them on either side of the radium and make it so your tank isn't so dark on the outer edges... i might know whare you can buy another one

If it was me adding another bulb, it would be a second Radium with the 175w in the center....JMO though

that would give a overall blue with a white center though.. just switching the black edges for blue.. and the heat would be nuts in that tank..

There is plenty of light to penetrate the edges.. The auto contrast adjustment from the camera makes them seem darker..There are lots of sps in the sides that get enough light for good growth and colour

Steve I have a second 10k 175 and ballast and I chose not to add it.. Power? is that a joke? I have at least 5 seperate curcuits in my room.

:P Let me make this clear, this is not a lighting debate, I am sick of them! lol I am only showing an example of a certain combination..

How far is your MH 175w from the top? does it generate too much heat? do you thinks its too much light for the 55g?
