Noise from the LG4

Hi:

I have a LG4 as a return pump from the sump. It rans ok but is very loud. I try to put a pices of foam under the pump. It doesn't help. Any syggestion.

Is it a new pump? These pump do have vibrations and must be soft piped, mine was hard piped and tranfered all the vibration and noise to the sump. The fan also makes alot of noise and the air path ways need to be clean to get good air flow to the pump side of the motor.

I traded mine to Jack for a MAG18. He spent hours cleaning it, and should be better now.

Yup, it took 3 hours to clean it with but now it will run cooler and the vents actually work now. Maybe try some 3in1 20w SAE oil, you can get it a Canadian tire for 3.50$ Also soft plumbing is a must with foam underneath, it's really not that bad.

See the four small bolts? Those are to get at the impeller, take it apart and give that a clean. Maybe soak the impeller parts in vinager to melt any coraline algae in there. Also, the air vents are the tricky part to cleaning the thing. You have to be inventive but I "flossed" through some string and crafty pipe cleaners to clean it. Use a flashlight to look through the air slits, it's tricky and you probably have to take it off the tank to do this. Just be inventive, use Q-Tips to clean the fan blades and stuff, it's not brain science.

A note on cleaning the fan part of a lg pump.

The housing cover on the LG pumps can be removed.
There is one or two bolts that you have to undo on the housing and then you just have to use a hammer to get the cover off, tapping it gently of course :wink: . It's a bit of work, but once it's off, you can get all the gunk out of the black cover and from the fan blade. You have to be a bit ambitious to do this but I do it let's say once a year on my LG pumps and it get's them nice and clean which allows the fan to work properly which inturn keeps the pump cool

Hi, I've used Little Giant, Dolphin and Gen X pumps and Gen X is the hands down winner. LG are reliable but are way louder in operation. For flow, power draw, quality and price I'd pick the Mak 4 by Gen X. How's that for a commercial? I should be getting a kick back.

I was wondering how to get that cover off, it seemed like it was a stupid design but now that I know you can get it off that's great.... and now that I spent 3 hours cleaning it instead of an easy 15 minutes :roll:

Yea it's one or two silver (usually) bolts on the cylindrical part of the pump that covers up the fan and motor.
Once you see them it will make perfect sense. :wink:

Yup, it would, but they aren't there. This is the flow LG 4md maybe the pressure pump has this? Could my pump be older? Oh well, I'm not concerned it's clean now!

Well my old and new 4mdqx-sc pumps all have these screws. :?
I have 3 lg pumps running and they all have them.
But they are all 4mdqx-sc pumps
