I'm considering the Azoo set up with the 7 watt 7200k lamp for a desk top tank. Anyone tried them and have any input, I think its a great looking set up and the LFS has them as is for $49 or with LR LS and two shrooms for $79

Is that the .9 gallon open top"tank" with the tiny power filter on the back?

If it is I just set one up today for a mantis shrimp. Added two small pieces of LR (one with some nice blue mushrooms and green polyps on it to make the tank look pretty :D  ) and a little sand on the bottom, and thats it.

Took about 5 minutes to set up. :)

We just got them in today and the first thing we thought was "REEF TANK." :D

It's running without a heater (no room) so it maybe limited to what can be kept in it.

If you set one up in a warm room it should not be a problem.

The light puts out alot and the colour is very nice.

Theres not much room for error in a setup like that. If something dies your in trouble. The only other problem I can see is salinity changes because of evaporation.

Should be interesting seeing how it does. I may set one up at home next to the computer. :D

I have never seen one, so would it be possible to post a picture? No heater? hmmm, I wonder how much heat my brewbelt I use for winemaking would put out?

I wonder how well one of those heat pads that are used under reptile tanks would work? I'm not sure how fine the heat adjustments are.

Heaters???? Coral does fine at room temperature, I wouldn't worry about a heater, as far as a pic goes I will see if I can find one and link to it, they are a cool little set up.

Bob, I guess you guys don't get Google in Calgary eh?

Do you do this, and with which corals? What temp is your room at, and what temp does it leave the water at?

hate to let my nano cool to room temp for an experiment...

OTOH, it might be a good environment for some of those cool-water Catalina gobies. They might look at home in that tiny thing...

Sure we do. I am not a big searcher I guess. I think I see Xenia in the corner. Would that be cute. Some Xenia, some mushrooms, maybe some GSP's, and a couple of Catalina Gobies. That I think might be nice.

I'm not sure if that is the Azoo setup he is talking about. But, that's not the one that I set up as a reef. That one looks alot bigger.

The one I used is about 6"X6"X6" and has no top. It has a 7 watt PC that attaches to the back and extends out over the tank. It also has what must be the worlds smallest HOB power filter on it too. :)

Here is a link to the Azoo site, if you scroll down you will see Dazzling Red, Dazzling yellow, etc etc... those are the ones I mean, but they come with a 7 watt, 7200k lamp, and a HOB filter, no lid though but look around on their site they have some cool stuff.

I bought one when I was out "slummin" Doug  . Both EmilyB and I bought them. Just set mine up tonight.

Put a couple of ridiculously tiny cleaner shrimp in there. And Debs fabulous orange polyps which are a bit cranky in there. I think I woke them up.

Now I just gotta get a heater. Found a 4", 7.5 watt one on MOPS. I've got the tank running downstairs with the woodstove and it will be fine at night but without the woodstove?? who knows??

Next time you are over I have some leather you can have for that, and I have a few small single .... polyps or anemones of some sort, Oh and a Monti frag too... heck you could have it completely stocked lol

Awesome Doug! Thanks!

BTW, the sand cost me $3 and I used some rubble rock from my main tank. For a couple of shrooms and some xenia, the extra $30 is pretty steep, IMO.

One thing tho, it definitely needs a heater. This morning it was at 21.5 degrees which is a bit low for my liking, so I ordered a heater from MOPS.

Thats too bad that you need a heater... cool that you found a small one... I wonder if you can get those drilled and put a 5 gallon sump under it.... for the skimmer, Ca reactor... etc etc.. lol

EmilyB

When I brought mine out, Barry said "Cool, for me ?!!" - so what could I say......he is really excited. I ordered the 4" heater as well.

How many ml water will he change weekly??

I brought a 10ml syringe home from work for water changes

As much as I like those I think I will go for a 5 gallon bow and drill it for a sump and maybe make a HOB refugium for it with one of the lights off the azoo set up.

Hey Doug,
Check out Ikea for a lamp. There are tons of them there. Same setup as the azoo I think.

Christy :)

Ikea... wow I never thought of that but it makes sense... thanks.

Well we were wandering around there on sunday and they had quite a few lights that looked remarkably similar. Besides, I'm always looking at fish tank applications for normal household items :p

EmilyB

 8)

I've been using my office lamp (Ikea 13w) for tanks...... So what if I can't see what I'm doing....

The 9w and 13w replacement bulbs are at Revy here for a few bucks.

BCOrchidGuy
02-06-2003, 04:02 AM
That is another thing all together, Revy, Home Depot etc don't carry anything over 4100k for replacement bulbs, I guess for a refugium it doesn't matter, but I would still like a daylight replacement to be available.

When I was ordering for my Coralife mini-lite, I always got them directly from Hello Lights http://www.hellolights.com/9watt.html, AquariumPros is the distributor now, but I haven't reordered recently. I do remember ordering a blue one...which would be kind of nice over my little azoo.....

oops...Barry's azoo....

EmilyB

Well, it appears the 4" heater won't work. It has no temp control....says NOT to use for less than 2g.

Unless you want to keep those Banff snails maybe......

Barry lasted three whole days with the thing anyway. First 36 hrs lights on, second 36 hrs lights off, no topoff, no water change, no nothing (just me biting my tongue). Then I exploded.....

So it's mine...

christyf5
02-12-2003, 02:12 AM
Well, nuts. I ordered one of those too. Another $25 into the crap pile. Maybe we can install a dimmer switch on it or something ($25 heater with a $50 dimmer switch? ). How hot does the water get in it anyway??

Way to score Deb! :P

Christy :)

EmilyB

Yeah, I saw that Brandon said he found no temp controlled heaters....... we should have known... :P

What about Tronic 50W heaters?

They are only 7" long, so they should fit inside the little Azoo setups?

Temperature control, excellent accuracy and quality product.

Andrew,

The Azoo set ups are only 4" deep. Thats 3" of heater sticking out of the water if you don't have any kind of sand bed in it.

Good idea but I already tried it. Looks goofy but if nothing else works I think I'll have to bite the bullet and do it anyway.

You must be able to have it sit diagonally across the back of the little tank? A heater doesn't have to be completely vertical ya know! :P I would have to think that if you have 4" of depth to work with, you've gotta have at least 6" of width. That gives you more than enough diagonal area to work with.

Just my $0.02 worth.

I think they are 4"x 4"x 4".... they are tiny about a quarter of a gallon... Christy get someone to make you an over flow for it and then put your heater in a sump.. ... I think I already cracked this joke.. didn't I?... lol

christyf5
03-12-2003, 07:14 PM
haha, actually they are 6x6x6

I got the little heater from mops. Maxed out at 29 degrees, a bit warm so I put an ikea dimmer cord on it, set it at half and its at 26 now. Now I am just dealing with red slime algae. Fun stuff :p

I highly recommend a 180g sump.

Mitch :D

BCOrchidGuy

180 gallon would work yes, but see the above link there is a 900 gallon tank for sale... much more stable in my opinion.

MitchM
03-12-2003, 07:57 PM
ah yes. You're right. I guess I was thinking 180g minimum. I've heard that those nano's are bioload hogs.

... can you imagine the cost of filling a 900 gallon tank with live rock?... Even base rock... wow, $$$$$
