Hey guys,

My Green Star Polyps have been closed up for a few days now, and I am wondering if it is normal for this to happen? They have been doing great for months and all of a sudden they are now all closed. All of my other corals are doing great. Levels have stayed steady since the day I got them. Any ideas?

I think it's pretty common for this to happen from time to time. Mine will do it occasionally for up to a couple of days.

my gsp has been closing up for some days now, after I changed my salt. Hope it will be ok and open up soon.

GSP is an extremely resilient coral. Sometimes it wil stay closed for several days but you can be damned sure that it won't die on you unless something's terribly wrong with your water parameters.
:D

i know. the smaller gsp already opened but the bigger gsp has not.
At least all the other corals are open and doing well.

I wouldn't worry yet, our gsp closed up for 2 weeks once before making a full recovery.

My snakeskin gsp has a habit of closing up if the alk levels are too high. Is it snakeskin or purple mat? They do act a bit differently.

They are but you never know. I lost 3 cloned colonies recently for some reason. All other corals were fine! But ya, They have a history of closing up from time to time, usually when they're messed around with or a tank perameter is changed too rapidly.

Hey guys,

The GSP is still closed up. It has been a few weeks, and I am not sure what to do. They look to be in good condition, just closed up tightly in their purple bulbs.

mine do that all the time...they always seem to come out sooner or later though.

They stay hidden for a few weeks or just days?

they'll stay hidden for quite some time. you can always try movin' them to a different part of the tank to see if they perk up. don't go move them every day, give them some time in a different location maybe and see what happens to them. they may be unhappy with some of the neighboring corals right now, who knows.

Weird - I've heard of GSP being stubborn but never like that. How big is your colony? :(

about 3 inches in diameter, nothing too huge. I moved them to a new spot, so we will see what happens

More flow, though not direct.

looks like an Alkalinity and Iodine issue to me.
water change and Ph+KH (2 in 1) buffer from Salifert should take care of it.
