Hi all. Just acquired a fowlr tank with four fish in it 2 o. clowns a pj cardinal and this guy. Any idea what it is? The guy said it was some sort of goby but it looks like an eel to me. Swims like an eel anyway.Bout 6" long. Any help is most welcome.

Looks like an adult Engineer Goby (Pholidichthys leucotaenia).

yup im gonna agree with drew on the engineer.

oh fyi, you can see that your fish has pectoral fins. eels, by definition, are finless.

Engineer Goby is what that is. Also known as a Convict blenny. It will dig extensive tunnels under your rock work. Make sure you place the rock on the bottom of the tank, and then add your sand around it. If its anything like mine, you won't see him often except feeding time.

i had one of these guys i got it when it was an inch long:P
i thought it had died ..... 3 years later i found that he had gotten into my sump and had been hidding under rock for years.. grew to about a foot long and was about as thick as a thumb.... odd fish.
they are not nice if you have lots of rock work they tend to dig and everything tumbles down...
