well during my hunt for reflectors I came across a good price on Son Agro ballast for the 400 watt radium bulbs (they also run the Ushio 400 watt real white) same ballast that a certian company uses in its HQI ballast

I can get an Advance 430 watt Son Agro ballast for 70.00 including Taxes. so the only other cost will be shipping for thoes who want them.

I did some checking on shipping by greyhound and here are some examples of the rates to different areas

from Victoria to Vancouver aprox 9.97 for one ballast or 12.39 for two

From Victoria to Calgary/Edmonton 20.56 for one ballast or 27.16 for two

From Victoria to Winnipeg aprox 26.03 for one ballast or 32.63 for two

Oh ya Victoria shipping... FREE

and Ontario has a weird shipping system it is 45.64 for one ballast and 58.28 for two. ( I think for Onterio you would need to get two or more ballast to make shipping worth it... I will look into postal shipping in the next couple days to see if it is more cost effective.

So anyone who wants one of thease ballast let me know and we can see what kind of interest there is in them..

Do you guys think I could put 2x400 in my PFO style 48" box, with 2 fans? Like the one J&L has over the clam tank? I guess I could part with my 175's then. I wonder if they would cook my VHO, not that I would need them any more.

Steve and Brad,

Are these are still cap n coil ballasts?

...i would prefer to wait for my e-ballasts, but i can actually buy 4 of the son agros for the same price as 1 e-ballast.

Thanx,

Marc, yes, they are. But I have to say, they make those 10k Ushios look nice!!

Thanks Brad, (and hey....i never heard from you monday....ya missed some new frags)

I just might withdraw my order then, so am i correct in thinking that they will fire 20k, 10k, and 6500`s ?

I am considering 3 ballasts and would like to run all same ballasts but with maybe a combination of bulbs, and yet unsure what combination i will run.

Steve, if i do go this route, how could i send a payment and how long do you suspect it will take to recieve them?

Its not that im impatient......well,yes it is... ive been waiting on the e-ballasts for 3 months almost now.

Thanks Guys,

Marc, we called your cell a few times, called your home and checked Tim Horton's!! :P What kind of frags did we miss? Or is it better I don't know?

Yes, they will fire the 10k and 20k for sure, but I'm not sure about the 65k as I *think" that bulb has it's own ignitor. Steve may know better than I on that.

Steve will have to answer the availability/time questions.

Exactly what method of shipping? The reason I ask is, it seems kind of high. Can you look into postage price? The local price of a Son Agro ballast in Calgary is $80-90 so $70 + 30 is not yet advantageous. Not that I don't appreciate what you're doing, of course! But if that's not the Canada Post price then just for curiousity I'd like to see the CP price before I decide to extend my debt load yet another $100 or $200 ....

Aquattro

Tony, are you saying you don't like to waste money???? I would say then that you're doing this all wrong! :P
If you can get them locally for $80, that would be my choice. Shipping a 15 pound ballast with ANY method is going to be more than $10

Canadian Man
01-08-2003, 04:47 PM
where did you find them at Tony and what's the price exactally.
From steve they are going to be like 165 including shipping for 2 ballast's.

are these ballasts available in smaller wattage values such as a 250 or only the 430 as mentioned above.

I will get a canada post price for you... if you are pooling shipping with someone else from Calgary it can get cheeper.. for example it is 22 bucks shipping for one ballast so it is 70 plus 22 not 30.00 which means just over 90.00 including taxes.. now if there were 4 going to Calgary the shipping would be 42.06 which makes them 80.50 each including everything.. if you can buy them for 80 there it would be at least 5.00 more.. and for 6 ballast the shipping drops down to about 8 bucks each so it would be 78.00 each ballast roughly.. now is that a huge savings.. not over 80.00 but it is cheeper..

I Just looked up the delivery to Calgary for two ballast.. it works out to 17.66 total for two ballasts in 4 days.

27.45 for 4 ballast in 4 days to Calgary.. so looks like standard parcel throught canada post is cheeper..

well I think I am going to have top set a time for final interest.. how does friday noon sound? that gives me the afternoon to get confermation on the numbers and delivery times and then I can get back to everyone friday night.

Josh, for 250 watt bulbs I can get the Advance M80 ballasts (the HQI ballasts) for a little better of a price than J&L sells them for but there is a two week delivery time on them.. if there is enuf interest in them I could inquire about thoes again (I just ordered mine last week...)

Thanks for looking into that, Steve, I appreciate it.

One last question before I go and agonize over a decision. (You've caught me at a time I was about to replace 3 halide bulbs, so this will seriously impact my lighting budget in the short-term here...) The ballasts that you will be getting, are they Advance #71A85E6, or are they a different one? (Edit: I originally missed that you said these were the Advance ballasts.) Thanks for the info.

Ok ..... (oh, I am going to be in sooo much trouble for this :( ) .... but ... please count me in for two.

PS. I double checked, the price in Calgary is more like $87.50. But a special-order item, so possibly not the right ballast (they weren't able to confirm the part #).

Er ... yes of course. Sorry I was assuming that anyone in Calgary would be pooling into an single shipment. I also assume that not only is it cheaper, but it's easier on Steve to only do one shipment as well instead of a whole bunch (I wouldn't want to break Steve when he's so close to topping DJ88's post count :P )

Tony, you may want to check out brite-lite.com as they are currently having a sale on their light products. They list an Advance 400W MH Ballast for $69.95 - sorry I didn't find a part number yet.

Well got some bad news today and I am going to have to drop this whole deal.. seams that my quoted brice was for the son agro bulb... bot the ballast.. and with the new price on the ballast it isn't worth the shipping...

Sorry about the confusion.. I will see about other possabilities and get back to you.. I may be able to get the price down but I am going to go in there today and talk to him instead of on the phone.

You know, I've had this exact problem too. I said "I need the 430 HPS Son Agro ballast. What is your price." The answer: "$34.50". After a half second of hopeful delirium where I get fantasies of ordering, oh, TEN or so at that price, reality sets in. Too good to be true, I think. I say "The BALLAST. Not the bulb." The answer: "Yes. The ballast. It's a screw in type, and you need a Son Agro ballast to run these bulbs." Gaaaahhhh!!!

Where do they find these people???

Just curious, what is your new price on the ballast. If it's more than $87.50, let me know, maybe we over here in Calgary can send you some at that price. Not as good as $70 though. :( But better than $110 which is one price I had found at another place!

The only thing is, I'm a little afraid that the price seems to change a little every time I phone and ask. It seems to depend on who answers the phone at the parts counter and what mood they're in. Maybe even $87.50 is too good to be true. But I can find out for you for certain if you like, just let me know.

Aquattro

Tony, the ballasts here for me are $86. That is what I paid for mine. We'll see if Steve can get a better price than that.
