Places to see in England

I'm going to England for holiday's soon, does any one know if there are marine related sites to visit? I will of course be visiting a lot of historical sites, but wouldn't mind seeing a public aquarium if there is one.

Hi Danny, I have not been back to the U.K. for about ten years ! With that proviso I can't say that England had any world class aquariums when I used to live there. There is a site that lists them all but is not too informative .
However I do believe the Aquarium hobby is very active and you may find it interesting to visit some retail establishments.
One place I used to go to when I started a marine aquarium in the sixties is :

They are still going and have a large place near Heathrow airport.

Mentioned this in a PM but might as well mention it here too just in case anyone else goes to visit the U.K.

London has a public aquarium. It's right next to the Westminster bridge, the bridge that's right next to the Parliament buildings. I once fancied myself a photo geek and one of my favourite photo posters is a picture taken by Thurston Hopkins, entitled "Lovers of London", from in the 50's, of a young couple, looking over the Thames next to this bridge, with the Parliament buildings and Big Ben in the background.

Anyhow the aquarium is just on the other side of this bridge (same side of the river). Here's a website with more info:

It's been a while since I was there but I was already into reefing when I was there and I remember it being pretty good. Its focus is mostly Atlantic stuff (and tropical Atlantic) whereas a lot of aquariums closer to us here tend to focus on the Pacific, so it offers some neat things to see IMHO. :)

I've been told to recommend Bath as a good and very lovely place to visit.

I second that Catherine , Bath is indeed a lovely city. If travelling north Chester is wonderfully intact as a medieval town and also boasts a first class zoo.
The whole of the U.K . has well preserved castles and beautiful mansions and cathedrals. Many are run by the National Trust www.nationaltrust.org.uk/ -

I agree that Bath is lovely, but consider Cornwall. Not as urban as most of the south. If you like hikes I would suggest the cliff walk from Trebarwith Strand to Tintagel (King Arthur's castle). Here is a link to a list of public aquariums in the UK:

We'll be staying with relatives in Heysham which is just up the coast from Blackpool. I should be heading south at some point towards Stonhenge then London.
