I was at J&L few days ago and the had a Hawkfish - Longnose in one of their tanks. I thought about buying but I decided to go home to do a bit of research before buying it. Is this fish suitable for a reef tank with shrimp, snail and crabs? I have been looking for informatio about this fish and some people say that it will not eat shrimp while other say that it will eat the crabs, shrimp, snail and even some small fish. I would like to hear from people that have or have had this fish and their experiences.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Cooper, I will give you my short experience with hawkfish. I had one for a couple of months, and they are fairly aggressive. It is my understanding they cannot be kept with too many inverts, shrimp etc as they will eat them. When it came time to feeding, definately aggressive! I ended up trading him (did not do enough research) as I wanted to keep inverts. Neat fish to have if you do not plan on keeping inverts!

Just my .02 cents!

Jason

Mine left my crabs alone however it did eat all my sexy shrimp. It never seemed to bother any fish, and just so you know you will need lids for this fish as they are jumpers.

Do you think that it would go after my Fire, Cleaner and Pepermint Shrimp?
