You should be able to find them at any good fish store, they are everywhere. Just because they arent allowed to be collected in Brazil doesnt mean they arent easy to get. Brazil has a long border, many people sneak stuff over every day. Where are you located?

So if they stop collecting them in a country it probably means they are not doing so great. Maybe you should consider not getting one.

I know everyone likes rare fish and hates seeing environmental degradation so how bout stepping up on taking responsibility.

As far as I know there is almost no if any aquarium fish colectiong in Brazil any more.

But illegal collection will still happen if we show that there is a demand for these fish. I agree with jslaney on this one.

but whats the point in leaving them in the wild if the problem is habitat destruction. Would they not be better off in captive breeding programs? Especially when there is few people breeding them in the first place.

I have seen them at Aquagiant they usually have some in if not they will sometimes order them in for you!!
