-I'm gonna start cyclin' my 33-gallon saltwater tank in the next week or so and was just wondering what equipment is recommended and/or neccessary for the 4-6 week cycling peroid. Some things I've heard are a good heater, power filter, substrate, live rock, salt obvously and test kits and hydrometer.-So if u think I missed anything important ot that you highly reccomend, please feel free to post a thread. -And also do i need 2 have my protein skimmer or filter on for the 5 weeks?

Powerheads. You'll need good current in the tank.
I'd only use the power filter to run carbon and phosban... you shouldn't need it for cycling.

you probably won't need a heater right now with the summer but you might need it in the fall.
You need a good skimmer and powerhead both of which should be cleaned daily (intake screen)

I would ditch the hydrometer and get a refractometer. :)
