Just tested alkalinity in a freashly prepared batch of Instant Oceansalt using RO/DI water, at 1.026 SG. Using a Salifert kit I am getting 14.5 dkh. I don't think it is extemely high but thought I'd check what other's get.

I just measured mine that was mixed yesterday. I add magnesium and a small amount of calcium also. The alk. in mine was 10.6dkh

I should have mentioned that the Calcium is at 370 ppm, Mg 1230 ppm

Ca 380ppm, Alk 9.6 dkH, Mg 900 at 1.026 SG

Nice to see its so consistent

What test kits are you using argileh? I was told that IO salt is deficient in magnesium and currently I'm having difficulty in my tank getting my levels up.

All tests with Salifert kits. My Mg is on the low side so I have to up it. What method are you using

I have read of issues recently with some salifert alk test kits reading high. You might want to check out some of the threads in the salifert forum on reefcentral
That said even if you do have a bad test kit there seems to be no recourse at the moment because Habib (and therefore salifert) have appeared to have vanished off the face of the earth

Im using Seachem for Mag and Alk. Its nice because it comes with a bottle of calibration fluid for the Mag so you can check and see if your titrant is still accurate.

I am aware of the Salifert Alk test issues. I think my kit is fine as it is giving me logical results when I test the main tank

My defective sailfert alk test read a little high on the tank water and just plain stupid high on freshly mixed water. I'm not sure why there was a difference.

I mix 37ml magnesium first, let it mix for awile, then add about 3/4 tsp of calcium and mix for the rest of the day, then add salt. I,m currently using Ben,s, {chemmaster}, additives.
