Does anyone have any idea what kinda algae this is ? i have looked in my 2 algae books with no luck i have also looked in the standard web pages for hichikers... It is quite slow growing and dose not go sexual, but you need to keep it pruned to keep it looking nice

thanks kris

Well after a lot of searching i belive i have an ID i belive it is Ptilota gunneri and seems to be native to norway... good thing my dad still can read norwegian, It came on a frag plug that i got from a fellow reefer when i first got into the hobbie a few years ago. I guess i will have to start trying to grow frags or something share the wealth.... But please dont PM me looking to be first on the list it will take a few months as it grows painfuly slow... thanks
kris

I did't mean to sound negitive... the last time i had something unique i got pestered about selling frags... I am willing to share the wealth... I have concerns about selling it to just anyone thou because it is a non native species to the pacific and grows in norway that has aproxamatley the same ocean temps and lighting... If I have to dispose of it it will be burned compleatly befor i get rid of it...

If it is the stuff from Norway, then it would be a cold water species. That may explain why it grows so slow.If it was in cooler water than we keep our reefs at,maybe it would grow faster.Very nice looking algae, wouldn't mind some myself .

I was thinking that myself... i might cut off a little piece and keep it at room temp see if it grows alittle faster... It suits me just fine as a slow grower in my tanks so it does not take over...
