I only run a heaters on my 150g and my biocubes...my 65 and my 120 are heaterless...my biocubes are set very very low as they maintain their temps fairly well

Interesting. I don't think I could do that, because I leave my windows and patio door open ALL the time. Sometimes it gets pretty chilly in the livingroom at night. But I figure it's good for gas exchange :)

I must not have enough equipment... I struggle to maintain 78 sometimes!

What is your temperature fluctuation? This can be the cause of stress for the corals and fish, and is normally what initiates ich IME.

mine don't flucuate much at all....usually around + or - 1 degree...the 120 has run this warm since we first put it up...strange!

I didn't use one for the past two years (no chiller either, just temp comtrolled fan) but now I use a couple in the winter cause I let the temp get below 15 in the house at night.

I'm considering putting mine on a timer and only having it come on for 6-8 hours at night. Would this be objectionable in any way?

On a controller?

Ranco temp controller for the fans (and heaters when used).
