well I have done it again. Going to be moving tanks again from a 65 gal to a 120 gal. Reason is well i'm a reefer and that is what we do. WEll I hope that is what we do Right DOUG.. Taking after you.

the tank is 48x24x24 5/8' glass rimless with no braces. the tank when it was made had a single overflow with Dual stacks. The reason I know this is because it's my old tank when I started out in 2002 :drinking: ya can you believe it I when back to it again..

OH ya I paid $100 for it

Any thought on if I should make the over flow smaller and have 1 overflow with a return inside the over flow the return is a mag 7.

any ways here are a couple of shots of the 120

Mike, for that size tank I would have gone with at least 1" glass, and a huge centre brace.
I don't thing that gun you fire could break that tank

So what's this one going to be, mixed reef, or just softies?

Skimmerking
06-02-2007, 03:23 AM
LOL it's going to be a mixed all contents will be transfered over, along with a foxface, to take care of Bubble algae and I might add a powder brown, or a yellow or purple tang havent decided yet. and i might add 2 leopard wrasses......

I think you are better off with the two holes both being used as overflow. Run the return over the top. Do you know from experience if a single hole can take 100% of the flow you want?

If it can, you can silence the overflow using that 2nd hole.

Well I bought some paint. Going to paint all 3 sides glossy black to keep lots of light in and I like the look of Black too. I'm going to have dual overflow Like Doug and Untamed recommended. I have already put on 2 coats of black paint.

here is the first coat.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e122/asmodeus338/120%20gal%20mixed/DSC02413.jpg

the first coat is like the primer for the rest. here is the second coat starting to come together and fill in nicely.

as you look at the overflow holes they are for 1" overflows. the overflow box was huge when I like owned it . Im going to make it smaller might just use normal standpipes.. any input..

The guys at golds aquarium in calgary have a good silent overflow set up. If you call and speak with them they would probabally email u some pics. Having the return ran above the water level and then into the tank is the safest way to pipe it. On mine I ran the return over the overflow. Then I drilled a hole in the 90 on the return and tapped a small plastic threaded barb adapter in to it. I used some small diameter tubing to keep the water from the barb adapter in the overflow. I secured the tubing just above the water level as a siphon break. works like a charm. No more relying on check valves.

Coming along nice Mike. I used a flat black though. Not sure any difference.

If you did straight stacks, the overflow box would be smaller but for sure, more noise. You could build Stockman stacks. Take up very little room, in comparison to Duraso,s.

Well I'm not going to use the counter top. for the tank to sit on. Im going to use stryofoam and have the ply wood to sit higher then the tank.

More pictures woll follow this weekend probably will finish the stand.

Well I have the stand made. Its at a friends house now. all I have to do is cut the door for the left side and match it up with the stain. I hope I can match it up I might make a door for it instead of buying one from home depot..

here is the skimmer I did a leak test on it to test it out and good thing I found a ew leaks in the skimmer in the rgasket on the first flange. and then the gate vlave was leaking too. but now I have the thing water proof I hope...........

here is the skimmer with the gate valve and a extension this is what I was talking about.

I should have put a union on there I think....

Well with setting up the tank as in the water parameters did they spike or did you have a massive die off and things like that. What kind of water did you use for you aquarium did you use tap water with a declhorinator or distilled water?
Thanks!

the tank has always been in this one , all i did was add sand to the tank with the rock in thet ank and I didnt have a problem from taking the sand from the Rdsb since the sand was only in the other tank for about 3 weeks if that. so I dont think that i had any die off just a few pods. I hope that answered your question

I have a hard time taking macros of clams .. basically I end up with a picture of about a 1" square section of the mantle. I just step back far enough to get the whole clam in the picture frame and then snap. One drawback, in order to prevent the reflection of the camera on the glass I take the picture at an angle, and this seems to slightly distort the image somewhat.

Tank looks great BTW :)

thanks for the kind words. Yes I just found out that i'm leaving in end Of Feb so i have a little longer home my family and friends. The tank runs it self and with the great help of my wife Tammy for feeding it and cleaning the dirty skimmer when it gets bad. And the biggest help is from DOug here the Moderator. Who has helped me get to where my tank is today so he is the backbone of my hobby and my tank. A truely excellent friend to have. He is going to be watching over my tank doing water changes every other week when he can. And testing my CAL and ALk and sort out the dosing. With out Doug I would Be lost. And when he gets bored he usaually takes corals from my tank. LoL

So Yes I have a great person taking care of my tank.....Great looking clams....

Reset the kalk drip today. Alk. was down a bit, so added a couple caps of buffer. Everything looks great though. I think the algae is almost all gone now. :surprise:. Still a bit here & there, but nothing like before.

Clams are looking great. I need to get a top down of the new crocea thats up with the acro. My goodness, is it beautiful looking down. The derasa,s all have great extension now, with no signs of the stringy mantle stressor.

Tony I have been battling this Red stuff in my tank since 2006 of Dec, I finally think that i have rid of from my tank I don't knowwhat caused it Tony. many times Me and Doug would be chatting over many cups of coffee, chatting about what the heck it is and how it came in to my tank. I'm glad that is going away IMO I think it is phoshates that have been leaching out over time the rock that i have is going on 6 years now that is why when i get backim going to be starting with 100 lbs of jakata rock

now that my tank has alot of coraline may be that I can get some nice colors going in the tank. its taken me along time to get where the tank is now TOny lots of patience and lots of phosban.. I hope its gone for good. I think that my tank can only get better now , until I get home and rip it apart to install my new one.

Hi bud.

Thanks Tony.

I will try take some more for you Mike. And post them easy to lookie at.

Things looked ok. As mentioned the new leather had fallen over but I put it back and moved it over. Kalk reactor is maintaining a good drip rate and ca remains stable with no more kalk additions yet. Needed another does of alk. buffer though, which I attribute to weaker kalk in the mixer but easier to maintain it this way without spiking the calcium.

Likely will do a small water change this week. No new algae growth but wondering when the Po2 remover will be spent. Must be time soon to do a change of media. I think I will add a small bag of carbon also, since your ozone is off.

Fishies look good. eating like pigs as usual. Wrasses are growing well and eating mysis like crazy. Clowns moved into the larger finger leather.

Wrasses are fine but showing some aggression towards each other now that they are getting larger. Not sure how serious it is. They both ate mysis yesterday, when feeding though.

Baby derasa is growing ok. Other two are ok but not sure which two I took.. They never seemed to extend as much as mine, so thought perhaps they were still irritated and the other pair. However last week I seen why, as Mr. foxface had his snout right in the two of them. Seen that a couple of times now.

Considering, they are still doing ok though. Seems no one bothers the crocea,s & maxima, as they are all GREAT. I gave you my blue crocea back and just kept the two derasa,s. :D Yes, I have the hydro,s but you still have some frags.

Your two acros are doing great. The large one is growing like craze. Mushrooms & zoos all growing well. The leather coral is trying to grow but those dufus clowns wont leave it alone.

Cleaned and refilled the phosphate media yesterday. Added several more spoons of kalk to the reactor also. My ca test measures ca @ 390ppm, yours @ 420ppm. Both alk. kits measured 7.5 dkh. Added a bit more buffer and new kalk should touch up both levels. Also changed another 5g water.

Have yet to order the impellars. Did talk with Jeff about them though. Ordering two of them, one each.

Going back in a day or so to check on the changes I made and will take a couple pics for you.

Not to much flow for the leather. Perhaps needs more. Its the clowns laying in it, thats bothering it. I ordered you one of each, alk. & ca. never knew you had so many alk. kits. I will keep the Elos alk. then. I will remove some of the xenia next time over, so it cant spread elsewhere.
