It's been a while since we've had a "everybody post pics" thread so lets see a pic of your favourite coral

This one was completely brown when I bought it, now everyone comments on it

Great looking coral Marie. Is that some strain of A loripes or A granulosa or what? Awesome!
Tough for me to pick my favorite, it changes almost daily.
It appears you have your camera figured out, nice picture.

Well I've had it with my camera, the best part of the "favorites" is the color and my camera just ain't gettin it. What camera are you using Marie, yours seems to get the colors right.

I've just recently had to get a new camera because the old one bit the dust. My new camera is an olympus sp-510uz and I'm still trying to figure it out.
Some pics are awesome and others are crap  .This is the first "macro" that actually turned out ok

Damn Marie! That growth you are getting is spectacular, I'm so jealous. You must be using Miracle-Gro for reefers or something. I wish I could coax my little frag factory to get moving along.

Ok so these were the best of the pics I took today. Not my favorite but in my top 10 anyways  Ah heck, I have a different favorite every day anyways. After I took these I discovered one of my other favorites had moved up in ranks but has a chunk of halimeda obscuring the photo so I'll have a go at it tomorrow (tank maintenance day, yay )

I'll post a pic of my new favorite as soon as he deigns to stick his polyps out. They're the most gorgeous blue

Nice Marie !

Stunning Piece !

Very nice tank too boot, i love the big stag.

Damn, there all my favorite.

A favorite of mine (this week) is my Mike Palleta L/E A. Lovelli

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j272/marc_aka_fudge/aquascapeandcorals019.jpg

I guess we can gauge our favorites simply by looking at your tank sill, find where the biggest pile of slobber is on it...then look up again, there it is !

The word favourite appears to be a stumbling block here so instead of favourite coral lets look at pics of corals that are doing really well in your system. Ones that have vibrant colour, great growth and makes all your guests say "wow look at that, what is it?"

Snappy, did that coral start to change colour as soon as it was in your tank? or was it in the tank for sometime before it started turning.
You wouldn't by any chance have any plans for moving (with tank and corals) to Powell River sometime in the future

 Thanks Marie but when I move I am hoping it will be southern in direction. (hopefully Mexico?) That coral is one a local reefer buddy decided he didn't like so he sold it to me and it has since changed colour in my tank. I got it either late Sept or early Oct 06 and at the time it looked like the first picture.

fishytime, nice zoos and this thread isn't just about sps it's about corals with a wow factor

The ric/shrooms and zoos in my little tank have more of the wow factor then anything in my big tank thats full of sps. It's just that my little tank has algae issues and i can't get good pics
If you can ignore the algae the tank looks great and is in fact still my favourite tank

I don't have allot yet, but here are a couple pics. Green and pink frog spawn, and a duncan. I got the duncan from Clint about a month ago and it's already growing 3 new heads. 1 in the picture and 2 on the other side. At this rate, this thing will be a nice colony by this time next year.

well ive had it about 2 months give or take. i found out after i had bought it that it was probably died and i think its showing symptoms because all the tips are pretty much white as you can see in this pic but it could also just be my lights. It has lasted longer than i had expected. i'll try to get a better pic of my sps tomorrow

I know you guys do but I honestly think a lot of people either don't know how to get into the page or choose not to. Same with the POTM, I received several PM's about both home page pictures and it seems they saw the photo and just moved on instead of clicking on it. Likely the person that asked for my light specs didn't make the (Snappy) connection but I think the majority of people don't bother with the ftotm page. Most just look to see if there are any new posts that might interest them and go directly to them and then leave. Not a big deal but I just find it a little surprizing. Personally, I am always looking for ideas so I need to see what other people are doing in their tanks.
Anyway enough of my thread hi-jacking, people can get back to playing more show & tell.

Colin it looks similar to what people are selling as "pokerstar" monti. I am not sure of the exact genus, I'll have to look it up.
Sweet piece of M confusa. Is that taken under actinics?
Monti's are super easy to frag and heal up well. Just get the cutters out and hack away. I'll take one. Anything of mine you want to do a trade on?

I am lost as to what this coral is, is not acropora.

It will not cluster, branch or table.....it just forms mounds.
Definatly a unusual piece, possibly Isopora ?

J/K, this one has grown onto my rock and i havent pulled it out to smell latley....

It looks as if Isopora is a subgenus in the acropora family....so i guess still an acropora, just a weird one..lol.

Isopora have a distinct odour ?

SPS is certainly not my strong point, but it looks like it could be some sort of encrusting montipora. Or maybe I'm just on crack :)

Delphinus
05-30-2007, 03:47 PM
Montiporas tend to have an amusing if slightly precocious bouquet. An Isopora of decent vintage tends to have evokations of blackberry and apples.

Der_Iron_Chef

lol! Oh wait, I get it:

Montipora = Cabarnet Sauvignon
Isopora = Valpolicella

Next time I'm out your way Dave I'm comin' by with some coral cutters. But then those delicate little Birdsnests break so easy.

Yes those birdnests do break away easy - but I have a tough time letting them go! Take this first one for example - another fine little birdsnest. Got it as a hitchhiker on a wild echinata colony maybe a year and a half ago. Seems to be growing ok - look forward to the green becoming more pronounced.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m142/djelley/TOTM%20-%20May%202007/SPS%20Pics/pp_birdsnest.jpg

Also have this yellow birdsnest which is pretty unusual. Most go green but this one stayed yellow. Don't see too many pics like this (at least I don't), even in the US. And the green with purple poly birdsnest below is part of my collection as well. Not a great picture at all but you kind of get the idea.

This thing was a tank, what he has tucked under his carapace there would shock you, i watched it at night snap off branches 1/4" thick and take them to his hideout for dinner.

I bet if i had of chucked it on the neighbor`s lawn it would have just bust through the window to my house and hopped back in !

Marc I have about 12 of those little turds in my cube tank. It took me a while to figure out why I suddenly couldn't keep corals anymore in there (they kept disappearing).

I'm totally hooched though. 30" deep tank, the only way to remove them all is remove the rock. And it's all one big coral bommie with a 24" anemone on top. Why's that a problem? Because anytime it's moved, it gets annoyed. And when it's annoyed, it kills an entire tankload of fish. So I have fish that need to be moved. At this point I think it would just be easier to just set up a new dang tank.

a few of the remaining LPS in my tank. the wife wont let me get rid of them because they 'move' unlike sps

Awww, c'mon. Give the LPS some TLC! I love those blastos. The top ones look identical to mine. So pretty.

i enjoy LPS but i have setup my tank for the requirements of sps and the lighting is still too bright for them at the bottom of the tank. by the end of the day to the blastos look totally worn out. the frogspawns are actually hidden under rocks from the lighting.

on the upper right of this picture, is that a streak on the glass. I am hoping it's not a "red bug" web. That is just the sort of acro they love to infest. Say it aint so....

Dave, I ended up removing all the rock as I was moving the tank anyways. It had gotten to the point where it was eating anything resembling a soft coral as well as stealing all of my unmounted frags to tuck into its fortress (I pulled out several pieces). I ended up moving all of my ricordea and zoos to another tank in order to save them as it was mowing them down at an alarming rate. I knew it was something large as it was actually moving bali plugs from one side of the tank to the other (and those are pretty large and heavy IMO). Other than physically removing it, I have no idea how to get it out. Perhaps some tasty zoos in a pop bottle??

Greg, I treated for red bugs a couple months ago and they had better not be back. I do have stray mucous strands from various vermetid snails in the tank. Lets pretend thats what it is until I can get home to have a good look at the tank on Friday  (and it had better not be a scratch in the glass!!)

Thanks for the compliments Catherine. I was actually surprised the camera got the color on this one. Seems I either get the color right or its in focus. This time it was color

I was just there last week and no he doesn't. I think Marc has the nicest tank I've ever seen in person. Colin, I have lots of "regular Joes" if it makes you feel better although it doesn't look like you do either. Sweet monti.
