I need shelving material for the inside of my prop tank. Anyone know where I can buy black egg crate? I'm also open to suggestions for an alternate material that is aesthetically pleasing.

eggcrate is used to diffuse lighting so its white or silver i doubt you will find black... like andsoitgoes said you could paint it krylon fusion is made for plastics i know people that used it for there internal overflows.

i've considered coating with krylon fusion. but i just don't feel comfortable with that much paint inside my tank.
i've found an american supplier that has it for $20 a sheet. unfortunately there is a minimum order of $100. i can only do it if there was an interest in a victoria area group buy.

I would take a sheet.
Shaun.
All of the internal supports for my current reef are made of eggcrate painted with black krylon fusion. 6 months with no ill effects and the bond hasn't weakened anywhere.

Check with a lighting supplier. Something like Litemore or BriteLite or wherever. You don't need to order it from the U.S. the lighting stores will have it. However expect to spend about $15 per sheet. It's way expensive. Krylon Fusion black paint has been used to make eggcrate black for many people and it's totally fine to do it that way.
