I am not sure what type of shark it was, but Hidden Reef had some pretty cool looking sharks in. Not banded cat sharks, they had a different pattern sort of looks like a leopard.

They are also a temperate species and most of the time you see them in tropical setups.

I may be a bit off cuz I havent checked into it recently as I havent been importing fish for abit now..... But I believe that only juvinile leapord sharks under 36" are protected, anything over 36" is fair game but obviously hard to come by compared with catching baby sharks or pregnant females that are cut open for there developed babies.... Check into it more if you have an appropiate temperate setup..... I used to get them a few years back, legaly.
I know my buddy used to collect them for the local wholesalers down on fish row next to LAX

Also keep in mind they regularly reach 5+ feet in captivity and swim constantly, a 3000gallon tank sounds way undersized for even one of them in my opinion.... and please dont consider "unloading" them on a public aquarium as an option if they get too big....

It's protected for a reason. It's probably close to extinction. Aquarists like your friend give the rest of us a bad name.

He was looking for a shark that was bought before they were banned. He was hoping some body had one that had one that out grew a smaller tank.He isnt looking for one that was cought after they were banned. He was looking to rescue one in a smaller tank.If your into going after somebody it should be your local pet stores that sold and are selling sharks to anybody that has a tank without questioning them about the size of there tank. This is the reason the leopard shark is not fore sale anymore.
