i'm getting worried...all my fish have very rapid respiration.i've got my RO line in running cool water in to bring down the temp...

I was away a few days when my tank over heated.I lost corrals from it for a week.I would keep an eye on your ph as when things die your ph drops.

only one coral looks rough, everything else ok, except the fish

I'd turn the lights off for at least a day, the fish are gonna be turned upside down because night never came last night. Leaving the lights off should help them calm down. Good luck.

they are still breathing fast and now they are all sitting at the water surface...i don't have cool water going in anymore, hoping the temp will come down. its at 85.3 right now

I wonder if they need some oxygen? if they are breathing fast they will be using a lot of it and with them at the surface I wonder... Rachel

Thing that has me confused is that 89 degrees, while warm, shouldn't be bad, unless it was a sudden swing. I'd be more concerned about a sudden change. Can you run a fan on the water surface? Evaporation will help cool the water.

What is 89 degrees ... about 31 degrees C? 32 maybe? I'm sure I've had my tank warmer than that in the heat of July in the days before I had A/C and I never saw rapid breathing of the fish, so I'm not sure if it's the temperature that's freaking them out here... Sounds like they're in distress though.. Is there anything that could be affecting O2 in the tank?

I'm not sure what to suggest other than lights-out and maybe a water change or something and the fan on the water surface.. Good luck.

i did move my powerhead to the surface. hope that helps

Maybe an air bubbler in the tank ... I really think there's an O2 issue here.

What else is on the controller that may have malfunctioned? This sounds like more than temperature to me also...

both my power heads slid down and there isnt much surface agitation...

I agree, get that water movement going and a fan blowing across the surface. Hope all will be well.

i've got no surface movement, and the friend who caused the overheating, won't come over and help (for those of you who know my situation)

craptaculous. friend doesn't sound very friendly. are you doing anything to keep the powerheads up? like a hang on clip orsomething? Id imagine it wouldn't be too hard if you have wire coat hangers or something.

Geez, that's WEAK. Does anyone live near you, man? Anyone near him who could pop in and help a brotha' out?!

Hey I just tuned into your thread. I live in Calgary and if tonight you need to borrow some power heads or air pump and stone pm me. I really think its lack of 02 also.

Sorry to hear about the coral beauty. :( I hope things continue to stay on the upswing. Wish I could come by and lend a hand, I'm sorry.

Sorry to hear about your issues, remember for next time though, high temps aren't all that bad, it's the lack of dissolved O2 in the water. Remember cooler water holds more dissolved O2, you did the right thing with the airstone and powerheads. Good luck.

How are things today? Any better? If you need a hand tonight I could come by and help, you're still in the same place?

thanks guys...everything is fine now, it's too bad the coral beauty had to die..it was preventable but I couldn't get any help in time.

I didn't clue in that higher temp=lower oxygen.

It's the sadest way to learn but it sure drives home the lesson. We've all been through it at least once and that's one reason why we all come here, to learn from other peoples mistakes and share our victories.
