I want to buy an RO water purifier. I'm considering a very basic 50 GPD one. I don't know if I need or want a DI. The water I get now at Safeway is just RO I assume. What added benefit does DI give me?

kentmarine.com has some good questions and answers for you. The DI basically srips any remaining contaminents from the water. It is also a bit of a back up if your membrane starts to get old before you notice it. On the Kent I believe the RO removes 95 % + with the DI added it is well over 99% +

Yeah, I was asking the same few qestions a while ago. I have decided on getting the Reefpure 50gpd Tornado RO/DI unit from JL aquatics. This unit is cheaper than the kent unit, and comes with more features. The DI basically strips any remaining contaminents, like scott pointed out for you. I'm sure it is well worth it to have that extra polishing of your water before being used.
