One of my best friends has had a very bad couple of years medically. Over Christmas, she lost her 10 year old cat. To make matters worse, she was diagnosed with cancer last week

I haven't yet approached her about getting another cat, but think it might do her a world of good under the circumstances. If anyone in Edmonton has kittens for sale, please let me know. Her last cat was a barn kitten that her husband slowly tamed enough to bring home, so a new kitten can be a Heinz 57 mix. I don't think she's into any special breed, if she's interested at all.

TIA :)

Why not check the SPCA? They usually have a horde of cats and kittens that are just begging for new homes.

Ruth,

I've thought of the ESPCA for possible kittens, but kittens are always the first to be adopted there. If she's at all interested in taking in another feline, my guess is that she'd want a kitten to help her through this most terrible disease.

Ryan,

I'm pretty broken hearted to hear that she's got some kind of cancer that may have already spread throughout her body. She spoke yesterday of the option of amputating part of her leg  The doctors have not yet given her a full daignosis, though.

She's still mourning the loss of her dear cat. I was only thinking of trying to make it easier on her emotionally if she had a kitten to care for. Dogs are certainly out of the question for a middle aged, sick amputee

I am sorry to hear about your friend Beverly - cancer is such a cruel disease. It probably wouldn't hurt to check with the SPCA as you never know - here in FSJ there is always cats and kittens coming in - to the point where there is no more room for them.

I don't think she needs that burden right now imo.

I spoke with her yesterday for awhile. She gave me the name of the cancer she has, so I'm going to Google it. Will probably have to find an index of terminology to understand what they're talking about, though

We also spoke about her getting another cat to replace Rusty. She told me so many stories about him! He was a very cool cat. She and her husband have already talked about the possibility of getting another cat. She thinks it will take several trips to the SPCA to find the one they think will fit with their lives.

So, thanks everyone, for the tips and well wishes for her. Now off to research my Google hits.
