These were always so difficult to take pictures of because they really mess with the camera, but this one turned out well.

I finally got my new Actinics. 2x 39 watt HO German Pure actinics. Any tips on how to set up the camera to take good pics under this lighting would be welcome.

Hey Danny,

I'm no pro photographer, but to take a shot with actinics , I would search around for the white balance setting on your camera. With that setting, you can adjust and balance things out a bit. Unless you already knew this (which you probably did) then nevermind this post

PS: Nice shots ! I'm liking the first photo a lot.. very crisp and clear. The tank is looking nice and healthy

Danny, Here is a tip from Kevin Pockell on Reef Frontiers forum. I assume this will work with actinics as well.

If your camera has a white balance adjustment you can use a coolwhip lid (or any white plastic) to set the camera so it doesn't look so blue. Just place the lid over or next to the coral and set the white balance. The coral will appear very close to the color as you see it.

HTH,
Kevin

Fishwave: Thats the whole tank, all 65 gallons of it.

Michika: The Camera is a Pentax Optio MX5. Its not the fanciest but it does the trick.

Greg: I'll have to try that trick and see how it works for me.

All: Thanks for the kind words. The tank is making a come back since the move. Some of the caps bleached out a fair bit in the move, while some acros had some die off, but there were no complete fatalities thankfully.

Asmodeus: That Bi-color is 100% reef safe. I made sure of it before buying it off of Alan way back when.
