I understand that most corals are not a good idea in a seahorse tank.
I have read gorgonians are OK.
What about zoanthids?
What about soft corals such as xenia, colt or leathers?
And what about mushrooms?

I was always under the impression that the problem is if the SeaHorse dies. Produces a very lethal toxin. I don't know if there is any truth to this or not.

Nope, no truth in that.
I have kept my seahorses with live corals, but I think they do best in a tank with prolifera, halimeda, & red halymenia macroalgae (and other tall macros). I've also kept suncorals under their feeding station to catch any stray food.
The problem is that there is a possibility that the coral will sting the seahorses or that the seahorses will irritate the coral by hanging on.
Also, corals usually need really bright illumination, while seahorses don't.
