So I got a lawnmower blenny a couple weeks ago and it hasn't stopped eating since I put it in. I'm not really complaining, its more of a concern.
Can it eat itself to death? I mean it looks like a marble with a tail!! and wont stop eating. The other fish at least seem to take a break from eating once in a while but not this thing, it just keeps going and going.
So what do you think?
OH and it poos like no other!!

I bet my sea hare gives it a run for its money in the poop department!

I'm guessing it's just fine.

No kidding! Mine craps like a horse! I had a lawnmower that got so gut loaded it looked like he was obese! Didn't kill him though, but the carpet dive & the cat finished him off but good.

This species is hit and miss with respect to eating. Many waste away to nothing, but those that do start eating, indeed, will eat themselves so full they look like they're about to burst. I found that when I had mine I had that problem too and there were times I was *convinced* it was abnormal but it seems it just happens sometimes. Here are some pictures:

(Sorry for the picture quality..)

So .. consider yourself lucky that yours is eating. :) Not that I can say with 100% certainty that the "marble with a tail" thing is nothing to worry about, but it does seem that it's at least not completely unheard of.

Here are some pictures of some lawnmower blennies I found in Hawaii (or at least a species very similar, I couldn't get close enough to tell for sure what they were, these were in a tidepool of sorts): (You can just sorta see some fat bellies on these guys..)

I nominate the first picture for "Weirdest Picture".

In fact, that would make a good POTM!

Just bring that Blenny over and put it in my tank so I can give you an honest opinion. :)

I've had three and wished that they would eat like that.
