Hi all - Just getting everything ready for my sump, I'm just trying to find the last few parts to get things up and going. I have my overflow now, and the sump, along with the skimmer (a Tunze Turbelle 220.05a, it's a classic DOC model) - I just need a few final little things to get this up and going! :)

Firstly - I need to get the appropriate tubing for the overflow to the sump, and then from the sump back to the overflow. Here's a picture of the overflow with the line out - Chaloupa mentioned that it was a simple pond tubing - but heaven knows I can't find anything ANYWHERE that would fit:

And here's the bulkhead going out from the sump:

And here's a better picture for comparison sake:

Not sure if that helps - I know thanks to the wonderful person that sold me the system (Thanks Seahorse_Fanatic!! :)) that I need larger going down, smaller up - Just with our distance, it's been tough to connect. I don't want water flowing everywhere and I'm.... confused :)

Lastly, the Tunze DOC skimmer looks rockin', and I can't wait to get it going. As you can see in the pic, it's in a plexiglass "box" - I have everything hooked up with the skimmer, but since I don't have a manual I've no idea how to properly add it into the sump - what's the right level? Does it sit in this box and do I leave it at the bottom? What if water is covering the whole thing?

SO many questions, I know - but I really appreciate the help - as always. Can't wait to get this going and help create more water volume to get this baby going smashingly!

If you want to swing by my place, I can show you the pieces you need.

I have all the same "fiddley-bits" on my sump return system and I got them all at Home Depot.

need a 1inch male threaded coupler for the over flow line out.

and if the bulkhead is also 1inch, you can just glue pvc right into it.

and of course either just 1inch pvc, or spaflex for the tubing.

Tunze should have instructions for the skimmer on it's website. If not, ask Roger Vitko on the Tunze forum on RC.

Hooking up the overflow to the sump should be pretty simple. Looks like a 1" slip bulkhead on the sump and 1" threaded female PVC exit on the overflow.

If they are indeed both the same size, all you'd need would be a threaded male x slip fitting and then the appropiate elbows and piping to slip into the bulkhead. If they're different sizes, then you simply need the right reducer fitting.

Thanks so much everyone. Posted on rc about the skimmer.

The female connector in the overflow is smaller (measuring on the outside) than the other male conector.

Also, where do I put the outflow of my mj1200 to run the water back up?

*confused* :S

Thanks all :)

the bulkhead is bigger on the outside because the threads are just for the nut, the pvc would just glue in to it. its a slip connection like the other poster said.

you need this for the overflow connection:

Ah - so would I use a hard PVC piece or something flexible like what's attached here:

I'm assuming the plastic piece sticking out would be glued in - using silicone or epoxy? I'm going to visit targaboy's setup, so it might all be answered there.

As for sizing, here's some pics with measurements:

Overflow tubing:

Bulkhead outflow tubing:

Full sump setup:

Skimmer with acrylic box (unfortunately it's too "wide"...) - I'm not sure how to set it into the tank so I can have it on the left, with the refugium portion in the middle, and then the return area on the far right.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/npapageorge/Sump%20and%20Overflow/2007-01-24-SumpandSkimmerPt2009.jpg

So, to sum it up:

- Left hand side, skimmer flush to the left side
- Middle portion, refugium
- Far right - return pump

I've got egg crate, but due to the costs I've spent already, I REALLY want to keep it down as much as possible....

Thoughts? ^_^
