Nice shot, did you catch him with the lights off. I have watched my peppermint shrimp do the same thing with small snails.

In the open with the MH on.

Got 2 a couple of months ago (one's MIA now) but from the start they both were always visible during the day, but usually under a ledge.

That's not a chiton, that's a stomatella snail. :(

But yeah shrimp (at least both peppermints and cleaners, IME) will pretty much decimate a tank's population of stomatella snails. Too bad but I guess there's always some give and take no matter what you choose to keep...

Looks like a Chiton to me, It appears to have seperated scales along the back and the rest of the 'hard' part to the sides of the scales is visible?

What a bummer on that one Mark!

You can see all that? It totally looks like an slightly-out-of-focus-upside-down-stomatella to me, ... I'll have to take your word on it.

I hope you dont think im trying to be rude..?

Here is a pic of what I am looking at, the black lines point to the 'seperations' that I see, and the pink lines just point to the whole outer edge of the body, I've had chitons 'roll up' in that fasion in my hand... it just looks like many I have seen:

Not necessarily off the ball and no I don't think you're being rude and I hope you don't think I'm being rude :p

I'm just thinking it looked more stomatella-ish to me. I can see the bits you're pointing at, ... Without a better look though (which I assume won't happen now with this particular individual) I think it could go either way.

I'm not saying you're wrong ... :)

Sorry Tony, and I didnt think you were being rude at all either!

Aha, well, yes, I guess unfortunately that little one is probably, fecal matter by now! I guess It just reminded me of some chitons I've seen.

Cheers!

 Don't know if I should saying anything or not...but since I had the advantage to get my face within a few inches and see from a different angle while the shrimp was picking at it. Critter had a segmented shell.

Eitherway, just hoping the shrimp hasn't developed a taste for live meat (aiptasia excluded).
