My yellow tang has red lips is this a bad thing.
Has he been eating cyano or any other kind of red algae?

Is he eating well?
Yep. I had a bit of red algea with the new lights. So you think it could be that.
He's been eating fine Mysis, Brine, Pellets and Nori. I've only had him for about a week.

Do you see any red along the lateral line or in his fins? Many years ago I had a tang that developed this when I had very high nitrate levels (possibly among other things...)

I was told that any red along the mouth or lateral lines of yellow tangs is a good indication of amonia poisoning, which they are more sensitive to than other fish. Something about blood vessels or something but I can't quite remember. Have you checked your levels lately?
I think my nitrates were about 30ppm but everything else was pretty much 0ppm.
My LFS has a tang with the same problem. It was the algea.
