Haddoni's are nice but they get quite big, and you'll likely lose fish to them sooner or later. They do come in nice colours though. There are rumours of a collection area being opened up that has red gigantea's. If anyone sees one please let me know.

Golden_69 in Creston has my old haddoni carpet that I had for many many years. I bought it in '99, sold it to AJ_77 in 2003, who sold it to Canadian Man, who sold it to Golden_69. I don't have any digital photos of it since it precedes me having a good digital camera (I think I have nice 35mm pics of it). If anyone has any pictures of that one online, please do share. Last time I saw it, it was a 24" monster (one of the reasons I sold it, I couldn't afford a bigger tank at the time... :( ). Man I miss that carpet!!

Sarah I can't help but notice the use of the past tense there ...... what happened ???

Hey Tony.....our red "passed" away not too long after purchase ...unfortunately when we purchased it it was pulled quite hard off the bottom of the tank....I think that there may have been some injury to the foot, it never did settle and attach and slowly died. We thought that we were ok and were quite optomistic that even with the hard removal it was eating and doing "ok" but just never settled....

the weird thing with our blue was that it was doing incredibly well, eating, HUGE, hosted by 2 of our 3 clowns, had it for several months, then suddenly after the red was purchased and expired it went downhill quickly. We check all of our water parameters often and nothing was out of whack so it is a bit of a mystery. Sad though as it was stunning and did so well for so long. The tank was fairly young when we added the blue to it but we had no choice after an incident in the tank it was in.....we will have one again as it was so amazing but will wait until the tank is more mature....I don't really think that was the problem but it is the only thing I could think of that would have done this.....we also found a large shell from a fallen hermit in it when we finally decided to remove it as it was not going to come back......when I see threads like this it makes me want one again so badly! Yours are stunning as usual!

Thanks guys. They're definitely my weakness in the hobby (well, one of many ... but one of the biggest).

That's so sad Sarah! I'm sorry to hear that. If it's any consolation, it may not have been your tank .. sometimes they just don't make the transition into captivity. I'm not sure why but it seems the more brightly coloured ones like purples and reds and pinks seem to fare worse. Not sure why that would be, but it figures, if it's more coveted and rare and/or expensive, Murphy's Law says they're going to be even harder. :( I also think that they are handled too roughly in the collection/shipping/distribution/retail/etc. chain of custody because they can come in a compromised state .. look completely fine one day, then completely melt down within a matter of days. :( It seems as if, if you can get them to the 8 week mark, you should be golden, but until then all bets are off.

...

So anyhow. :) There have to be more pics of carpets out there! Let's keep this thread going!!
