What is their diet (aka what purpose do they serve in home aquaria?)

I suspect he got them from Seacare as I've seen many of them there before.

Yes, got them from Seacare.

According to Dr. Shimek, they are algae eaters and grow 3/4-1"

They're not cheap. $6.95 per snail. I hope my hermits don't take them out. :twisted:

I have 2 in my tank, they are very good algae eaters and quite cool to watch.. when they are in your tank you will rarely ever see there shell as there mantle comes out from the opening undeneith and compleatly convers the shell, they look kinda cool actualy..

next time I see one of mine I will take a pic.

Actually, I took that photo first but didn't post it because it wasn't shiny. :)

They were in the cup for about 30 minutes as I acclimated them yesterday.

Smokin, get some. They're neat and not many people keep them nor do many places sell them. It was worth the drive even if all I got were snails. :)

I also have one of those. Not sure where it came from, but it was a stowaway from somewhere. Come to think of it, I haven't seen it in some time. Better go look!!
