Touchy

As far as I know J&L and OceanAquatics are having online sales. J&L is also open on Boxing day. King Ed usually has a sale I think, I don't know about HiddenReef but I would imagine they're having a sale as well. Maybe someone else will chime in.

sorry guys i didnt know it was a touchy subject or i wouldnt have said anything but i'm assuming its ok since christy spoke up. i was just hoping for some inside info because living in mission its a long haul to drive around to all the stores just to see whats on sale if you know what i mean. after i posted i went to see a new shipment and was told hidden reef is having the biggest boxing week sale they have ever done. i was floored at the prices they were talking about. i've heard good things about J&L's sales too. i've never checked out OA's on boxing day but i'm going test it out if i can make it in.

christy are we not to be talking about this or what's the skinny?

Merry Christmas CanReefer's.

You can say what you want about the savings on Boxing Day.

All I know is that it has been a lot of fun the last few years, first standing in line with all my reef friends and then seeing what they are buying.

I have always used the Boxing Day sales to replace my supply of staples. Things like light bulbs, additives, test kits, probes, water filters etc. By replacing them on Boxing Day you may only save 10 - 15 % which then can be spent later during the year on more exciting thinks.

See you all at J&L about 7:30.
Oh don't forget it is your turn to bring the coffee.

Of course you can talk about it. Its just that in those "other" threads there was some good discussion last year about it yet this year it was mostly "bumping" and non-constructive posts I guess. It doesn't help that people were speculating as to why prices were raised. Nobody actually knew the real reason or had heard it directly. Prices could have been raised for a number of reasons. However I didn't hear anyone complaining/raving last year when J&L dropped all of their prices by 5% because of the strong canadian dollar. Anyway, thats enough of that.

Personally I'm miffed because even though I finally live over there I still don't get a chance to attend any boxing day sales. Phooey! I will still be glued to my computer though.

Wow Tom, I wasn't really thinking I'd need anything this year but after reading your list I'm thinking I should peruse the site once again

Does anyone know the dimensions of the 230 gal tanks on sale at Aquarium Illusions on boxing day?

Delphinus
12-25-2006, 07:37 PM
A standard 230 is typically 72x30x24. Sometimes the 30 and 24 dimensions are flipflopped, ie some are 30 tall and 24 wide and some are 24 tall 30 wide. I'm not sure which one is the "more standarder" 230.

Most common is the 30 tall.

Thanks for the information. I was looking for a 24 X 24 X 96 which is approx. 230 gallons. Either plexi-glass or glass. Does anyone have a price on a plexi-glass tank in those dimensions?

I ordered about 400 bucks online from J&L, my uncle felt quite generous this year i guess. Their sale is today and the 27th, nothing can make me go into stores on boxing day and deal with turkey stuffed fools looking for a bargain :) (Not at the fish stores... everywhere else)

i got a sweet whipfin fairy wrasse today and the typical drygoods stock. although i was too late to pick up some buckets of salt, my loss i guess. the wrasse if beautiful though

I put in 2 good size orders with Ocean Aquatics and J&L. I just wish I could have been down there to take advantage of the fishies and corals. I hope there is still something left when I get down there on the 30th:cry:

I ordered my first Euro Reef skimmer and a Mag Drive return pump from J&L. Between the two I saved about a hundred bucks by ordering on boxing day. I am pretty excited to finally have a high end skimmer that will hopefully require a lot less tweaking and should do a much better job than my current Red Sea Berlin skimmer.

Went to Hidden Reef today and met Mike, good fella, we chatted, we traded stories about our kids, my g/f and I had a great time checking the place out, bought a MH system and got a couple quotes on tanks.

I have to say, I liked the store, the staff was great and they've got everything.

I also went to HR today. Picked up everything I needed there. I bought 6 buckets of salt, some corals and a load of drygoods. It was quite a drive from Richmond to there, but it was definitely worth it for the service.
There was a slight error at the register, and Mike cleared it up easily. No problem. I was fortunate the gf kept me company too. I will definitely be there for their next shipment.
Cheers

D'oh. I bought a 230g tank from AI today... then went home and told the wife :D hehe, apparently see expected it anyway so all is well. Can't wait to get it in the new house, which is almost finished out in Spruce grove, ergo why I've been away for a while. Now that i'm getting this bad boy i'm going to have to score some serious frags hint hint, nudge nudge :)

Specs: Extra thick glass, euro bracing 2 overflows 1 1/2" drains Welded steel stand, and delivered... thanks Ron :)
