I see Tony is thinking of hosting a meeting. I am thinking the same. I only have a small place though, and would probably not be able to do snacks. A few people could hang around the living room, and admire my nano while others hang around my fishroom to admire "ButtUgly" and friends, and what will probably soon be a 33 gallon FOWLR. :D :D

I need a few more weeks to get some things fixed and straightened out. Go ahead and plan something in the meantime.

I think your "bach pad" would be fine for a meeting, Bob. Crowded maybe, but still fine. We could bring bags of snacks if needed. And cans of beverages. And frags of various and sundry corals. And, and, buckets! Yes, buckets!! Lots and lots of buckets...
And if I'm crafty I might leave with your 33 and sandbed. :D
HEY!

I'd be inerested in meetin' ya'all ! What a concept, talkin' fish with someone and they don't just look at ya' with that look and say "yes dear, the corals are looking good today..."

Okay, what we will do is set a tentative date. Let's say the last week of October. Say Tuesday. Then we will see who can come. then we will set a date, and who comes who comes. Those who can't will wait until next month. OKAY?

and who comes who comes.
AHHHHH caught you there Bob! :P 8)
One for Jonny V
Score:Bob 2000 - Jon 1
Kidding of course but I thought you didnt make spelling/grammer mistakes :P :D
Anyway, back on subject before the moderators step in.
Meeting sounds good to me. I was just thinking of this the other day as it's been a while.
Anytime but the 25th of Oct is good for me(we are having our haloween party then)

Sorry Jonny, should not drink wine when posting.. I meant "who comes, comes". Did not need the extra "who".

I think Tuesday the 29th works for me, but closer to the date I'll know for sure. Big push on at work, etc etc...
But yeah, count me in! I'll see if I can scrounge up some cookies... :o

Tentatively in for that date. Not too late, though, that's a school ... er ... work night.

In the morning light it is looking like Tuesday the 29th. That gives me a week to do some house cleaning. I can't guarantee success. After living here for 10 years I am thinking of bringing in a maid service.

Tuesday the 29th at 7:30 PM, Bob? Count me in, pretty sure that evening is free. Maybe we could have a raffle for a beautiful 10 gallon nano-tank with awesome DIY-lighting hood. :D
Cheers all,
Alan

Well I'd be "in" for the 29th. I'd have to check with the "sweetie" and make sure we're not doin' nothing that night. Until then, you folks can vote on whether the "new guy" can come ? If some other time would be better I totally understand. I mean hey, I'd be relucctant to let some unknown "fish guy" into my home. For all ya' know he could be some "Deuce Biggalo" kind of guy that asks the girl at the pet store to get the Sea Snails from the bottom of the tank just so he could see her, well, you know...
let me know,
Doug

Everyone is welcome to come even though I have little room. As we said before, I am not big on snacks especially since I don't get home until 7:00 pm. I am sure we will make do. People could bring frags to trade (or anything else they want to get rid of).
As I said bring snacks and libations. :D :D :D
Perhaps Alan could put up a map where to find me. I have no idea how to do that. :?:

Jonny is forgetful, or stretching the boundaries of truth so-to-speak just to make you feel better ... he met SOME of us before that first get-together .... :P
Bob: Here is the best I can do for a map (although I am not Alan, and you didn't exactly ask me, so, I am sure Alan will do better..).

I forget what your unit number is, so I just plugged in #5. It seems to have put the star more or less over your condo (I think?).
Doug: If you can find me an LFS with an employee like that .... I will have a new favourite LFS.
Bob I
10-21-2002, 09:43 PM
Well I did not ask you Tony, because I remembered someone had posted a map, and I thought it was Alan.
You did fine, but I am at 202- Storybook Terrace, which on that map would be right at the intersection of Storybook Gardens and Terrace, which in reality is not mentioned on that map, but it would just move the star to the intersection. :D :D

My oh my, how picky can I be. The star is now at the end of the cul-de-sac. It should really be right on the intersection. But I suppose if you have gone to the end of the c-d-s, you have passed my unit, which has the number on it. So no big deal. :D :D

Bob, if you also provide written directions (north on Nose Hill, right on Range Dr, first right, go down to visitor parking, shine your brights into #202, etc) it should be easy to find.
Tony: good job with the map, my man! I have no thunder for you to steal, BTW. :D
Looking forward to getting together.

Well, perhaps some clarification:
Take Nose Hill Drive north from Crowchild Trail; at the 2nd set of lights take a right on Range Drive, then a quick right-hand turn into Story Book Gardens (condo complex). Go down about half a block where you'll see the Visitor Parking on your right. Bob's unit, #202, faces onto the visitor parking right there. Shine your brights into his door, and honk the horn a few times so he knows you're there.
Piece of cake!

I am not sure if you quite understand what this group is all about. From looking at your profile I see that you are a spy. I am not sure if I would want to invite a spy to my home. We would like to have some more information about you and your system before we issue an invitation to our meetings. At least that is how I feel about the meeting I am hosting. The host for the next meeting may have different requirements. :) :P

I'm not sure I understand what our group is all about. But, what I guess it is to me, is, a bunch of Calgarians who share a common interest. We can hang out sometimes, gab about our tanks, look to each other for help when we need it, do group orders, and etc. I for one, am VERY happy to have gotten to know all of you, and although I can be a jerk sometimes (espescially when I've had my spelling corrected  ), I hope that you all realize just how much I think our associations has propelled each of us in terms of what we can do now. Strength in numbers.
I know that you have a small space, Bob, and are probaby nervous about a get-together due to that. I have the same concerns about my place (and I can't keep my stuff clean and organized to save my life, so my house is always a disaster.) I'd have a huge job of cleaning and hiding messes if you were to all come over. Anyways. I would offer to have a meeting at my place, but, I simply can't right now (by now you know why). When I have finally recovered from this mess, I do hope to have a "bouncing back" party and consider youselves all invited. (Just let me get to the part where I felt I've "bounced back.")
cheers

10-26-2002, 09:05 PM
I am nervous, yes, but I still think I can pull it off. I was somewhat concerned about a whole bunch of strangers, especially those who use language I don't understand, barging in on me when I will just have gotten home. As far as I am concerned we are still on. :D :D

Well I will not be availiable for the Tues meeting now as my wife is leaving for the BAHAMAS on Wed morning so I NEED to be home the night before.
I will still organize giving Tony all the stuff that had it's intended destination. Hopefully he dosent mind. :D

I don't have a real problem with you dropping by. If it gets too crowded we will just kick some people out :D :D :D .
I hope there will be some trading, but I don't expect a plethora of freebies, so don't get your hopes up too high. :(
We will just have to wing it.
just curious but is there going to be another meeting this month (dec)

That could be productive. I am sure most of us have stuff sitting around that has no purpose, but would be what someone else is looking for. :D
well i have money floating around that all i have to offer unless heehe you need some maunal labour
thats all i am good for

I have no extra money floating around and my back injury leaves me useless when it comes to labor... :? What good am I ? I dunno', I've been wondering that for almost 37 years... Being the "pack-rat" that I am, I'd be hard-pressed to part with my crap...
A "swap-meet" sounds entertaining though. We'll come to your place kgb but only on one condition...you get a heater for your tanks instead of using "ambient" heating. A room full of sweaty fish geeks and all that "crap" could get smelly at 80' F.
Perhaps sometime in the new year when the "pleasures" of family Christmas is done...
ps. I'm not painting either...

ok do i need to pay money to get in on this club, or sign a release allowing you to use my colon for odd experiments involving monkeys, or something like that? i need to actually talk to some people who know what they're doing and look at some setups before i spend money (that could be better spent on tuition) on aquariums with holes in their bottom and $200 light bulbs  :P :D

Big money to join the Calgary Club.. :P
So, why not start a club in Red Deer ?
We used to camp at Pine Lake and search for LFS in Red Deer....
What is your story?
Quinn
12-21-2002, 10:08 PM
there are no LFSs in Red Deer other than Petland, and they don't carry saltwater anymore, as you know. there is a tiny LFS in Lacombe with three or four tanks of marine stock, but it's rather overpriced.
i personally don't know of any other reefers in the area, although i'm sure they exist. i'd actually like to attend meetings of both Calgary and Edmontons clubs, it would be worth the drive.
before i begin buying all my supplies, i'd like to see some quality arrangements in person. i'm compiling a list of components i feel i'll need to start with, i'll post it when i finish it up.
