View Full Version : ORP Numbers
I have a new ORP meter and was wondering what kind of numbers I should be looking at. Can anyone let me know what their numbers are so I can get a feeling of where I should be?
Thanks

390-400 is good
390-400 is good
So if my numbers are around 530, is that good or bad? I guess I need to do some research is higher good or bad.
Actually there's probably something funny there. If your ORP was actually 530 everything in your tank would be dead. Your water would be crystal clear though.

Ha.. figures, I read last night that probe needs several days to break in. I guess I will have to wait awhile to fugure out whats going on. My water can't be anywhere near as high as it reads, I don't even use a skimmer.
Mine took almost a month to break in before I started trusting it. Make sure you use a toothbrush on the probe at least once a week. That will give you a more accurate reading. It even takes a couple hours to adjust after using the toothbrush.

Wow, ok sensitive stuff. Where is the best place to put the probe?
I put mine in between one of the baffles in my sump. I think they said put it in a moderate flow area instead of low flow. Make sure you don't put any other probes within 6 inches of it like a pH probe or something.

What is ORP? Or what does it stand for?

ORP = Oxidative Reductive Potential
A little light reading (http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-12/rhf/feature/index.php) :wink:
Turns out my tanks isn't grounded properly so I am getting erratic readings. ORP is very sensitive to power, I have plugged a grounding probe in and see if that stabilizes the numbers.
