For years people called zoanthids zoo's. Sure I realise that was not correct, but a logical contraction none the less. Now suddenly they are being called ZOA's. Where the devil did that come from:question::question:

Well technically they're "zoanthids" and not "zooanthids". I guess someone just got uppity about the correct pronunciation and kept harping at people until they got it right  (at least I did see that on one board).
I for one still call them zoos and will always call them zoos

Maybe it's all a marketing scheme?
You know, "Get your beautiful, colourful ZOAS!" which will be, of course, command a higher priced than those old, run-of-the-mill zoos.
Zoos roll off your tongue better, but zoas is "more" correct. Either way, everybody seems to know we're all talking about the same thing (except for non-reefers who wonder how we can afford to buy a zoo, let alone a bunch of zoos).:)
I'm with Christy. Grammatically I prefer zoa, but I doubt I'll pronounce it anything but zoos.

I prefer to call them Zoo's one day and then Zoa's the next. Probably because I can't pronounce or spell the names of half the stuff I see.
