I am fighting a growth of hydroids in my tank and I am thinking of using Panacur. Has anyone used this with positive results. Do you have to remove your LPS and SPS?

I also understand it is hard to find... Does anyone have any for sale or know where I can get some

Thanks

Jim

I'm guessing the CC star didn't do the job in the end?

I was thinking about that earlier today - as I've got some hydroids going in the SH tank and wasn't really interested in medicating to deal with them...

I've seen panacur around; I don't think it was at my 'normal' saltwater stores though - thinking it was at riverfront or pisces..

I had a CC starfish that loved them... I gave it to Tony. Tony do you still have it and did it do the job for you?

I bought 4 more CC starfish and they won't touch my hydroids... Damn them !!

Andy...... I thought you had to get Panacur from a Vet

Has anyone tried Kalc paste on them? I have some too and was thinking of giving it a try.

May have to these days - God knows one can't find metrodiazinol and other decent meds these days... Back from discus days - panacur's active ingredient is fenbendazole, and used to be available as a few different products. Of course fish medication's seem to be under the microscope these days...

Blow torch?

I do still have him but unfortunately, nope he never touched a one of them. Not sure if it's the same kind of hydroid but I just manually remove them now. Ya want him back? :)

I was thinking of using a torch on the rock if I ever take the rock out.

Panacur you can order from 1800petmeds.com and that's where I was going to order some if I ever decide to treat the rock. I'd suggest doing this outside your main tank as people have reported a lot of tank death from using it.

Good luck trying to get a vet to dispense any, I tried with Interceptor and found that every vet in the city (at least the ones I tried) were all far too ethical to help me out. There was one who was willing to read the documentation, I forget the name now, but if you search back you should be able to find the info. Once I figured I can get either stuff from the 1800petmeds outfit I kinda figured that's the way I would go in the future.

How fortuitous this topic came up in another thread. You've probably seen this but in case not:

If you can't find any, go to the Calgary North Veterinary Hospital and talk to Dr Weger. He is the exotic pet specialist that I consulted with earlier this year to get the meds for my acros. He should have the information on file yet. He also sold me just a single tablet so that I would not have to buy an entire package.

That's the dude ya wanna speak to if you try the local vet route.

Let me know, if you want I can try my vets, one at Calgary North and one at Glenmore Landing. I must own some portion of them by now......
