Does anyone have/know of somone who has a nice looking tank that hasn't gone crazy in it's assortment of corals? I'm meaning, like maybe 4 different species in total? I'm thinking of aquascaping my tank that way, and think the impact, visually, would be nicer than having a huge, confusing assortment of corals in the tank. And the stress on the corals would be less, without the heavy chemical battleground happening in my tank.

And can anyone think of fast growing soft/LPS species that would be good to fill large sections of the tank out, from a limited number of frags? I really like my pulsing xenia, and it's growing like a weed. Any other nice, fast growing corals? But I'm looking for corals that spread outwards, not ones that spread polyps through the water column like pests. Like, green star polyps vs. mushrooms.

We have waving hands that are growing well as well as green stars that are now covering most of the rock it was set on. When we got it it was about the size of a dime...now it is about 6-8 in diameter. The zoos we have are spreading nicely as well.

I'm setting up a new small tank (16 G display) with just waving hand, mushrooms, and a single frag of Frogspawn. There will probably be a variety of mushrooms, though, once the tank is fully set up.

I'll post pics when it's up and running.

The nice thing about a tank like this, is that a skimmer is a hindrance... Well as long as you don't have a large fish load

I'm of the same mindset when it comes to coral selection. I'd rather see large homogenous stands of coral, rather than 2823432^9034 different color varieties packed into a tiny space. Actually, that said, I find good rockwork to be every bit as dramatic as a good arrengement of corals.

Here's a pic of our 37g semi-cube a couple of months after it was set up as a monti cap tank:
