I'm getting the stand ready for my 190g. This stand held a 190g for many years but it should be stronger than it is. Now is the time to do it before I pick up the tank. I'm hoping to find someone in Calgary to do the welding for me. I would rather pay a follow canreefer than some welding shop. If anyone is interested please let me know.

Thanks

What needs to be done?

The stand is just basically a frame. There is nothing to support any weight in the middle. I would like some supports welded in the middle of the stand front and back. I will take a pic this aft and try to post it.

Here it is (if the pic worked). I want something to support the middle. As you can see there is nothing there. Each corner is 1.5in X 1.5in tubing. the rest is 1.5in X 1.5in angle. I think welding another piece of tubing in the center front and back would make it a lot stronger. Any thoughts.

Assuming it's at 1/8" wall HSS (actually .120 but you probably don't have dial calipers); quite honestly you shouldn't need to reinforce this stand.

Deflection (assuming 8' tank) would be 1/16" at center. Assuming 3420lbs (18lb/gal - should be high, realistic is usually 14-15lb/gal); you've still got a ~20% fudge factor before you're anywhere near the breaking point where you'd need to be looking at reinforcement.

Then again there's no real price on peace of mind, thus... Reinforce if you really wish.

Hey whaddya know; stuff I do at work occasionally translates to important things like fish tanks

If you have the steel and can come around to my place, I can mig weld that up for you. I've built a few metal stands for myself and others.

Thanks very much to ED for a great welding job. I feel a lot better about the stand now. It looks very solid.

No Problem, looking forward to seeing it when you have it all set up.
