Well it has been about 3 months or so since I have been on this forum I had some computer problems and then just a pure lack of time. Good to see the profilux thread is still alive and well good to see so many firmware updates and that is where I have a question I am still running the firmware that came with my unit Can I upgraed strait to 3.03.1 or do I have to go through the other versions first? ( I hope not ) Also the english site goes strait to 3.02 I beleve it is. Any reason for this or has the site just not been updated yet

Thanks
Doug

After the version upgrade, is it possible to daisy chain the old powerbar from the digital one ?

Lam, please write some details what did you do so far.

Did you set it up the frist time using serial or USB to assing IP Adressen and details to your WLAN card?

I follow the instrution from Matthias, ans I got to 2.2 and connect the controller with the RS232 and then try to get to the system, and did not see any system show on the left.
That is all I went so far.
If you have a better way to set it up I really appreciated.
my first question is, what IP address should I set to the controller? is the local PC IP? or the router IP? my PC is connect to the DSL box (router)
I wish this could be easier, I think if this controller should be plug and play and if it does, alot of customer would like to buy it.
I have alot of people asking me about the controller and I can even tell them anything about it yet, all I said to them is I did not set it up yet.

I been waiting too long for the set up to be complete.

Thanks

Lam, lets do it step by step.

You first need to properly set up your RS232 connection. And this is described in 10.4 in the profilux manual. So with this you should be able to set all parameters (COM-Port on your PC where the RS232 cable is connected and the 9600 baud rate) of the RS232, and then connect to your Profilux. Can you confirme that you have at least the RS232 connection running? If you have a working connection you will see the menue on the left side and have then accsess to all functions of the Profilux.

Second you need to understand the IP network system and for this it is best that you again read the chapter 1.2 of the WLAN instruction. The IP of the WLAN card must be in the range of your network, but can not be the PC or the Router adresse. Can you please write down the IP of your PC and the one of your Router? So then you have to choose one who is free for your WLAN card. Write it down for us so we can see what your are doing. Do not choose a IP adress who is occupied by other network equipment eg. printer etc.

Hi Big Blue,

I got the connection with RS232 and can access to the controller no problem.

The thing i really want to do is get it connect via WLAN because my computer is in my room second floor and the controller is on the first floor.
I don't know anything about the network is the network have to be set up?
All I know is the DSL form verizon send me a router with the antena and that hook up to 4 computer. Right now it hook up to 3 computer.
The computer that I want the controller connecto is the main PC from my bed room.

Please let me know if the controller need the network in order to work and should I call the internet provider to set it up or what do I need to set it up?

Thanks for get back to me.

marc i dont think you can daisy the old to the new. my understanding is that if you use the 4 outlet one it uses its own port on the controller and the only 6 outlet bars can be daisy together.

powerbars:
if you mean digital powerbars with "new ones" and conventional powerbars with "old ones": they can't be daisy-chained, niloc is right

WLAN:
If "system" can't be seen the version of ProfiLuxControl or ProfiLux firmware is below 3.03 -> First make update of both as it is described in the tutorial to 3.03
IP-address: a NEW IP-address which has not be assigned to the other devices must be chosen. This can be any addres you want, it must fit to the address range of your home network. Please refer to the tutorial.
If you don't know anything about your network then do this:
- Start "cmd.exe" on your computer
- enter "ipconfig"
- what do you read now?
-> these are your LAN-settings

Hello Matthias,

I have followed all the instructions and am still not able to connect wireless. I cannot access the Lantronix WLAN-security settings page on iexplorer because I get a "cannot connect to this address" error, however, I have tried even with an unsecured network connection to connect wireless to the Profilux and I cannot connect! My router is a Linksys WRT300N wireless N broadband router and for the Profilux ip I use 192.168.1.105 . I am ready to start pulling my hair out from frustration of trying different combinations of settings with no success of a wireless connection! This does not seem to be a very user-friendly device. It would be much simpler if (for wireless operation) the Profilux was already factory set with all the necessary conditions met and have self-configuration automatically performed initially via the RS232 connection as in true plug and play fashion. Please Help!

Hi Matthias,

I update the software to 3.03 and now I see the system and set the Ip to it whatch is 192.168.1.46 after that I save and move on to # 3 WLAN security settings.

Start the IE and type 192.168.1.46 and enter the IE said page not found.

This thing is really sucks. I am patience enought of this and thought this controller is the best one out there. But I think I was wrong spending twice the money and got more head ache

Please get it works before put them on the market.

Hi

in my opinion some statements here regarding WLAN are not fair and correct.
Facts are:
- we have several 100 of these devices sold, most of them are working without any problem
- the user MUST have basic knowledge about his network at home - otherwise he will not be able to install it
- the devices are tested 100% before shipping, any of them has been configured here for a test connection
- i offered to call me directly to give personal assistence for the setup: Please call me! I got no call till now! (Please keep in mind our local time)
- i asked some concrete questions to give you detailled support - still no answer! (e.g. post #511)

How could we do factory settings for any customer? At least the SSID and security settings are different from case to case - so this is not possible. Did you alter these settings for you network?

Next time we extend the software again to be able to deal with automatic IP-addresses, then we have only 2 (SSID + security) settings instead of 3 which must be altered.

I'll be at Macna in september and teach some of the retailers regarding LAN/WLAN and general operation of the ProfiLux. That means in future our customers will obtain more qualified support from the retailers.
And if there are still questions till september: Maybe you can visit Proline's booth, i'll give you personal advice there.

Again: Please call me.

I got a hint from another customer:
His firewall caused trouble. After disabling the firewall for ports 80 and 10001 he got his WLAN running. If you don't know how to disable the firewall for special ports just disable the firewall completely (only for test!!! after test enable it again!!!)
Maybe this information is helpful.

2 quick questions...

Matthias are there any plans to have a full tank LED system along the lines of something like the solaris fixture that would be made by GHL and controllable with the profilux?

Secondly, can anyone confirm or deny if the "western" cables that we use to link the power bars together are telephone cables? The reason i ask is I'd love to hook my upstairs tank up to the controller as well and if it's telephone cable than I can just run 50 feet of cable upstairs and have it controlling that tank as well!

So far I've had my controller a month and absolutely love it!

AquaCan,

will i see you in september (Macna)?

Regarding extensions:
This is a 6pole 1:1 extension cable with western plugs (RJ12).
Keep in mind they should not be too long. I am not familiar with the unit "feet" but talking about meters the cable should not exceed about 12m.
Maybe longer distances can be achieved; that must be tested.
In any case make sure there is some distance between the extension cable and sources of interferences, a long cable is similar to an antenna.

skylord
07-12-2007, 07:48 AM
50 feet is about 15.5 meters so attenuation could be a problem. The signal probably starts getting weaker well before 12 meters but its still just strong enough to work.

SuperFudge,
What I am using is 6 wire modular line extension. It looks just like a regular telephone extension jack with a slightly wider wire but the difference is that it has 6 conductors as opposed to the two or three that telephones use for extensions. If you look at the clear jacks you can see this.

i cant believe how big this thread is. anyway i finally attempted a firmware update today. was very easy to do. there was a misunderstanding on my part because after the firmware update, all settings are lost. the program reminded of it before it started so i quickly wrote all the info down but after the fact i realized the info i re-entered afterwards was scrambled because my software was not updated. but other then that it was very easy. i can finally setup my digital bars now and clean up my bloody wiring. hopefully next days off the wife will go out with the kids and give me time to do it. the controller has been working awesome for me though. i love it. currently it not controlling anything but when i add my digital bars i will have it control ph, temp, eventually sump water level. its runs all my lighting. the past while the unit has been getting thrashed regarding the WLAN, and i have personally not had luck with getting it to work either but that is only one small part of the entire package. the additions keep getting better and better. i personally seen one of the new dosers at hidden reef and it lasted a whole 3 hours and it was sold. it was awesome. now if only the controller could make my corals grow faster..................

OK, so far my experience has been good, I think the controller has a lot of potential, but I am just getting started setting it up. I have the following questions:

1. According to the manual, there is a "fitment" available for attaching the controller to the wall..."Using our optionally available fitment the unit can also be attached to the wall." Can anyone tell me where to get one of these?

2. I continue to have problems displaying a graph of readings. I have updated both the software and the firmware to 3.03. I don't seem to be able to see any readings on the chart.

3. I have heard about the Redox / Salinity Conductivity Expansion module and would like to get more information how it works and what it does. Do you have a brochure at all with more detailed information?

I am going to go through the manual again and I'm sure I will have more questions. Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,
Gord.

Regarding our dimmable LED-light bars:
They have blue and white LEDs for moonlight (great effect in combination with the moon phase program of ProfiLux), red LEDs to simulate sunset (the light is more red at morning and evening) and white high-power LEDs to create flashes. The LED-groups can be dimmed independently.
The length is about 60cm, diameter is 20mm. They have only a small wattage (2.5W) because they are only designed for effect-lighting and not for replacement of the MH or fluorescents.
One bar is usually ok to illuminate a tank of about 1.5m, for longer tanks i recommend to use more of them.
I don't want to tell some pseudo-scientific arguments for this light (as maybe some other manufacturers do for their products). I am not sure if there are confirmable benefits for the fishes or corals, but it just looks really good. Maybe someone will now complain that thunderstroms my drive the fishes crazy - but in nature they have them also.

Dimmable sockets
They can be used to supply dimmable devices (eg some pumps, heater, conventional lamps) with a variable voltage. Coming soon.

Giesemann
I don't know this lamp but they usually don't equip non dimmable lamps with dimmable ballasts. That means: The ballast must be replaced in the case you want dimm the fluorescents.
Matthias a question please this is driving me & the fish mad. I have the LED spot-light attached to the Profilux, when all was first started all was OK, blue led dimming according to the moon phase but now for the last few weeks it is now a the red leds' that are dimming according to the moon phase. Hi Gordon.

Hope this helps.

I as yet have not come across the wall bracket but can easily find out for you

The data charts are addressed I believe in the next firmware version, matthias should be able to answer this better. just drop him a pm

The combined salinity/redox card is a dual use expansion card. It gives you control and monitoring of salinity readings of your tank and also redox potential or otherwise known as ORP. The beauty of this card is that it only utilises one slot instead of two if your pruchased the two cards seperatly. it is also cheaper doing this way. You will need to purchase the probes as an addition. You do not need to run both though, the card comes with a blanking plug so you can run only one of its functions if required.

If you ant one let me know

3. I have heard about the Redox / Salinity Conductivity Expansion module and would like to get more information how it works and what it does. Do you have a brochure at all with more detailed information?

I guess the channels are swapped. You can program the assignment of the channels to the LED groups. Just swap it again, see manual "program LED".
Important hint: Don't try to change the moon-color of -BW or -DB types, there color is not adjustable! If you do so this might cause a channel swap.

All fans are hard-wired, that means: if one is running the other should do so, too.
There are these possibilities for the malfunction:
- the contact of plug and socket (PCB inside the extrusion) is lost - maybe through transport
- PCB is defective
- motors are defective
reason for defective motor and/or PCB: saltwater!
Please read the manual carefully, contact with salty water must be avoided in any case!

If I buy the bluewhite, sunrise and blue LED sticks (55cm) should all of them be centered over the 1.2m aquarium? Will the lighting be spread equally if all of them are centered?

Aqua-Digital
07-17-2007, 04:55 PM
You should only need one stick for the size of your tank centered.

the flashes will project themselves through the tank without any trouble, bearing in mind in nature a flash seen from above when under water will have varying degrees of intensity.

Aqua-Digital
07-19-2007, 09:11 PM
Hi

the differences are in the colour and effect each produce.

If you have a marine tank and you want to recreate moonrise and moon phase and nothing else then the Simu-DB is just perfect.

Then you have the opposite, the sunrise spot or stick will simulate sunrise and sunset.

Moving on from there you then have what I call the full effect spot and sticks, these will do sunrise/sunset and moonphase and also produce simulated lightening effects, which of course can be fully programmed with duration and intensity.

it all comes down to what effect you are trying to achieve in your own system.

Hope this helps

Hi

Sounds like you may have moonphase set up, I am assuming you have a simuDB i.e it ony has a blue colour.

Other than moonphase or the simulation being set to cloudy days you will need to look at your set up graph. As there as so many setting for the simu's it is hard to diagnose by guess work, but if you can send me a copy of your profilux data file I can tehn upload it to mine and see where you are going wrong.

This can be done in file menu, you cn then save you settings to your pc and email them to me at sales@aqua-digital.com

Please give me 72 hours to look at it for you.

Not all the LED lights from profilux are simu's only the ones that flash, if you have a quick glance at my site you will see the difference as to what they do.

AquaCan,

I am happy to hear that your WLAN card is finally working, thanks to Marsh!
For a remote connection you need a static IP from your provider or a dynamic DNS - (http://www.dyndns.com/).
Then you must set your router that incoming calls to Port 10001 are redirected to the WLAN-card.

After that you can access your ProfiLux from another location with ProfiLuxControl. Just enter there your DynDNS or static IP.

Ok first off I gotta say what a great product this is. I haven't purchased one yet but I really like the capabilities of it. I've been researching the Profilux II on CanReef and also on other forums. I still got a few questions, and I am still making a wish list of all the components I want to attach to the unit (e.g. tunze(s), LED(s), and whatnot).

My first question would be associated to the dimmable ballast option....more specifically dimming a t5 ballast. I have been reading as many websites as I can but haven't seen a whole lot of ballasts on the aquarium vendor sites that sell dimmable ballasts. A few pages back I found the link to the Sylvania ballast, the Sylvania 49673 QT2x54/120 PHO-DIM. I was just seeing what other brands there are that would run t5 high output lights that have the dimming option? I figured out how the unit works, but I'm sure there is more than 1 vendor that makes a ballast like that.

Also, does the circuit board that controlls the dimmable ballast come with a Profilux II? Or is it a accessory option that must be purchased seperatly? If so how much would that cost?

I guess it would help to say I'm located in the US.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm still making a shopping list of Profilux components I want and I'll post them here later to see how I would need to hook them up to the controller.

Hi,

Here is a link for dimmable ballasts http://www.sylvania.com/content/disp...m&id=003678766

Whatever you choose make sure they are not DALI type!. I will also check to see if the GHL distributor is stocking the correct ballasts for supply.

The control board is seperate, you have a few options depending on your lighting situation. One acts as just an interface and you would have to have the lights on a timer to shut off the main power to the lights when you are at zero point dimming, this is the cheapest option, the second option is an all in one card EVG-AP-2F which has built in zero point switching, it also acts as the interface and can be used for up to 2 ballasts. The second option is a PCB so would need internal mounting. Wiring of both is straight forward.

With regards to prices, the cheapest option would be for the interface board around $19CAD and the more expensive fully switchable unit $39CAD. These are approx prices, but would not be far off the mark.

Hope this helps

I will start with what I want to connect to the controller:

* (2) IceCap 250w electronic metal halide ballasts
* (1) Sylvania 49673 QT2x54/120 PHO-DIM 0-10v T5 ballast (for the dimming t5's)
* (2) Tunze Stream 6100's
* pH probe (which I believe comes with the standard kit 1)
* temp probe (which I believe comes with the standard kit 1)
* LED red, bluewhite + flash stick (I have a 156g tank, and I figure this would work better than just 1 LED spotlight version)
* LAN interface (I'm leaning towards just a LAN connection vs a WLAN due to price and location of the tank)
* Profilux View II remote display (need to know how this hooks up to the main controller)

Ok what I need to know is what Profilux cables I will need to connect these items to their ports on the controller. Also if there is any information on the lengths of each cable, that will help in my design

* Profilux II Controller Kit 1 (contains the pH probe, temp probe, and at Tunze cable)

* I will need another Tunze cable since I am running 2 streams. Which one do I need?

* LED bar. Since this plugs into the L1/L2 or L3/L4 ports, and I will have 1 Tunze pump on L1/L2 and the other Tunze on L3/L4, would I need to get a splitter? If so, which one? The way I understand the splitters is that it will plug into a L1/L2 port. Then the splitter will provide a specific L1 port and then a specific L2 port. So basically its safe to say in the 'phone cord' connection, each L port uses 2 wires for signal transfer (with 4 being in each cable)? What I'm really trying to achieve here is to make sure the Tunze pumps work seperatly from each other, thus having to be on seperate L ports. Then I can plug a LED bar in, with a splitter.

* Dimmable T5 ballast. What is the name/part number of the 0-10v adapter? How does it connect to the controller? Does it use a L port? So if I have it hooked up to a splitter with a Tunze, will it all work OK?

So from what I gather now, I will have these items filled on the L ports:

L1/L2: L1 being a Tunze L2 being a LED light bar
L3/L4: L3 being a Tunze L4 being a 0-10v dimmer

* The pH and temp probes have their own ports

* The LAN will basically be a riser card. The plan is to run it directly to a computer. If later down the road I hook it up to a wireless access point (X brand), will this still work with the controller?

* How does the Profilux II remote display connect to the controller?

Sorry for the long drawn out questions, but it's basically going to help me (and others) in determining what accessory cables will be needed when ordering a unit. Thanks for any help!

Hi,

Ok baby steps, lets break this down into parts for you.

Firstly, you would be wise to go for the connect pack as this already has LAN in it and will save you a lot of money, unless of course there are parts in it you do not require, then it would be wise to build your own system pack as you require.

Moving onto Tunze cables.

To run two tunzes you require a YL2-1 splitter cable that plugs into L1/L2 and splits the port, you then require Tunze1 and Tunze 2 cables, you cant use anything other than GHL supplied western adapters as the wiring is unique to both Tunze and GHL. With regards to cable length, up to 5 meters is available.

The LED you have chosen is fine and will plug straight into L3 L4.

If you require dimmable lighting, you will need to split the L3 L4 port with another splitter cable.

The part number for the dimmable interface with zero volt shut off is EVG-AP-2F

Wiring is striaght forward. the dimmable ballasts come with a 1-10V control line, this is just twisted pair wiring,, take the pair from the ballast and wire into the EVG card, and then plug the supplied western cable into the EVG card and Profilux. The power for the lights then is wired into the EVG card also and power for this card must be from a constant source.

It may be worth getting WLAN now if you are even contemplating going down this road it is cheaper now than later.

The profiview attaches to the back of the profilux via the RS232 cable

Let me know if I have missed anything

Michael

I'm going to piece it together, only to match what I want to hook up.

Thanks for input. It pretty much matched what I was thinking. I work with electronics everyday and it will be a piece of cake to connect this controller :)

As for all the cables I need, that answered it pretty well. So it looks like (1)Tunze 1 and (1) Tunze 2 cables, (2) YL2-1 Spliters, and (1) EVG-AP-2F.

Since I still have a bunch of other expenses in order to get the tank running, these items will take me a long ways. Once I get the equipment withdrawl, I may take a stab at getting some more goodies for it. Thanks for the help! I hope this will help others when researching the Profilux II.

Well To answer everyones question ,Yes we did get our first batch of the DIMMABLE T5 2X 54W BALLAST in last week ,they do work great with the controller ,we have been testing the same ballast for almost 4 months here being dimmed with profilux using different bulbs & no problems ,runs great & good PF as well.
OF COURSE THEY EVAPORATED OUT OF OUR WAREHOUSE BEFORE THE SHIPMENT WAS RECEIVED:twised: :twised:
The next shipment will be next friday ,probably in stores the following week.
So please check with your LFS if you really like to have one from this shipment ,we will be a bit short on supply because of all the exsisting Back orders ,till 3rd week of september when we are expecting a major shipment & all back orders will be fullfilled before then.
We are working to bring in some fixtures with dimming capabilities using the same ballast as well in the near future.

Which ballast's are these? Direct from GHL? I would be interested in how much they cost

Also, I had another question:

What is the difference between the EVG-AP2 and the PLM-2L4S?

Hi

I am waiting for pricing right now, until landed we do not know the full cost of the units. Yes direct from GHL I believe.

The PLM card is an expansion card for the interface to plug into, this just gives you an extra L port and S port. You still require the EVG card

Hi Mathias,

Can the GHL-Profilux Splitter For Two Level Sensors be used with a Float level sensor and a Optical level sensor ?

Or is it only for the 2 Float level sensors ?

Hiya

You will find this in the pH control screen of the profilux pc software, i am assuming you are accessing the ProfiLux from your pc?

You then set the corresponding modes in this screen

For example you would set the maintained reading to 6.5 with a hysterix of 0.1 and set to switch on when the reading goes high.

I will try and find some screen shots for you, but please can you confirm you are viewing the settings via a pc, this will help in giving you advise.

Hi Matthias,

Ok, I need your help, I don't understand the following:

I have both the float sensor and the optical sensor. Both of them are connected to the Y-splitter. Both of them are positioned in my sump and my desire if to switch off Water 1 (Eheim pump) if one of them registers that the nominal level is attained.

If I set the Profilux to the Operation Mode: 2 independent adjustment cycles, I see that both sensors work, since the optical sensor = Water 1 and the float sensor = Water 2 and when I trigger either one of them (nominal value attained), they both do what they should do: cut the power to the associated socket.

Only problem, is that I want both of them to control the socket outlet Water 1. How can I do this ???? It's pretty much useless if I can only control Water 1 and Water 2..since how am I going to turn off my Eheim pump (that is on outlet Water1) ???

Can you please help !

Thanks !

I have a couple of questions regarding the diagram.

Does U-shape drawing on the lamp mean I should use a jumper wire or why do 4-5, 6-7, etc. cross-over at the bulb they way it's shown?

And for connection 2, see how it goes off to the left and form a dot - does that just mean I should splice it with wire # 1?

Last question, while the dimmable interface has a grounding wire slot that requires a grounding wire from the ballast - the ballast itself has no slot for a ground wire connection. Should I just leave it empty?

Terminal 1 needs to be bugged together as indicated by the black dot from bulb one to bulb two. Look at the picture two dimentional, those black lines go into the stand offs as you would be looking at them from the top down.

4.5.6.7 go to the respective areas in the standoff

By All means Ground the Ballast, run the ground from the ballast to ground on the to the ground for the Power. In Other words you need to ground the ballasts at the anchor point where you fasten them. Pay attention to your local electrical codes. you may not be allowed to do it this way. When In Doubt, Contact a Local electritian.

I udated to 3.04. Yes, everything shuts off and it reverts back to the factory defaults. You have to save your settings and then upload them into the controller. If you didn't -- I didn't, so I know -- you have to reprogram all your settings into the 3.04.

Not bad; it's like checking everything for no reason -- LOL.

So far it's working fine. Although I still can't get my WLAN online. I'll keep pluggin'

Amp,

thank you for your feedback. After the update ProfiLux restores the factory settings. This is normal and no problem. After that you have to load the sensor data and the settings you saved before the update back to ProfiLux.
A warning occurs before you load the settings back to ProfiLux because the firmware changed - that can be ignored.
I updated here all ProfiLux without any problem.

no .... but here is the story...

I got profilux months ago and hooked up wireless from my XP desktop no problem at all...

then I bought a laptop with Visa... tried to connect ... no problem! Awesome....

BUT suddenly I came home one day and none of my machines had internet and I couldn't connect to the profilux. I checked router and all of the security was put on (I have it off).... so I redid all that. I think Vista may have reconfigured the router? Anyway....

Still using 3.02 at this time, I put everything back to normal, I made an ad hoc connection and redid everything. Again I could get in to the WLAN card and make changes no problem. The control software would not connect though. Port 10001.....

So I decided to upgrade to the new software and new firmware. No problem. Now the control software see's the controller but won't make the connection...

Please advise,

Vista - no thanks!

At Macna i setup some PCs and ProfiLux. Usually it was done in 2-3 minutes.
Under Vista it was about 10 minutes. All the settings you need are hidden in some confusing menus of Vista. And Vista restores old settings or changes settings you have done some seconds before. It's unbelievable with Vista. I removed Vista on all our PCs here, we only use XP Professional until Vista works in an expectable way.

@mediaone:
Maybe Vista made some security updates or changed the firewall settings?
For testing: Deactivate the firewall (if Vista allows you to do this)
Another idea: If you selected "obtain IP automatically" you must have activated something like "DHCP-server" in your router.

Matthias Gross
10-01-2007, 10:49 AM
@Niloc: I know at least 5 persons got their WLAN running (in this and the other forum)...

We want to improve the ProfiLuxControl again in some weeks. We can't do much more than we did recently but there are still some things we could make easier for the user.
But to be honest: Without a minimum knowledge about the network and the PCs at home (firewall, WLAN-security) it is not an easy job.

mediaone
10-01-2007, 10:55 PM
Matthias,

I have the router DHCP correctly setup and the WLan card in the profilux is set to obtain the IP automatically. I can see that the Profilux is able to acquire an IP from the router by watching the client list inside the router. The control software even finds the IP address, but it will not connect.

I have Windows Vista on my laptop (which worked last week with no settings changes!) and I have Win XP Pro on my desktop. I am unable to connect with either at this time despite all security turned off (both machines!) - even the firewall in my router is disconnected at this time.

I have knowledge about all of the attributes/settings required to complete this connection - it simply is not working! I'm not saying i'm perfect or not missing anything ... but I should be able to get this running! I don't get why it won't work now ... any other ideas?

I had this setup no problem in the past so it can't be that my hardware isn't compatible or anything like that. The rest of my network is functioning normally.

Please advise,

Matthias Gross
10-02-2007, 05:19 AM
If ProfiLuxControl finds the card but isn't able to communicate with ProfiLux these are possible reasons:
- port 10001 is blocked (in windows or in the router) - for searching the card another port is used!
- an other port than 10001 is selected in WLAN card or ProfiLuxControl
- the baudrate in ProfiLux (only adjustable over the frontpanel of ProfiLux) is different to the baudrate in the WLAN card (only adjustable over the lantronix web configuration site) (recommendation: 9600 on both sides)
- the WLAN is not plugged in completely
- worst case: card and/or ProfiLux is defective - but this never happened until now

mediaone
10-03-2007, 03:48 PM
Thank you for the reply.

1) My router security is off including all port blocking.
2) The port information is interesting. How can I change the port that the WLAN card is using. I never set it to use port 10001. I never saw that in the tutorial guide or anything like that (or I read over it). Where can I change it?
3) I double checked that the WLAN is plugged in securely.

Hiya

The port is good, you just did it the long way round, what you needed to do was find what port that the devise was sitting on and then match that to the profiLux. Next to the connection tab there are three small dots, if you click on this that takes you into the devise manager. This is one of the most common questions we get so dont worry, all part of the ProfiLux learning curve and why i am here (and others) to help out.

The cards are installed so you dont have to fiddle around opening the box up as soon as you get it. Sort of a pre delivery set up service. You will also see the latest firmware has been uploaded also.

When i get 5 minutes I will list on here the most common newbie FAQ's which should help out, especially with the run up to Christmas.

Matthias Gross

Hi Moose

the numbers of the analog power bars are ALWAYS determinded by the western socket where they are plugged in. The numbering of the analog bars CAN'T be changed. That means for analog powerbars:
- plugged in S1-S4: the sockets have numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4
- S5-S8: numbers 5, 6, 7 and 8
and so on

The numbering of digital powerbars can be changed. Default is 1...6.

This means for your setup:
- connect analog powerbar to S5-S8 -> these are sockets 5...8
- program the digital powerbar #1 to be numbered 9 ... 14
- program the digital powerbar #2 to be numbered 15 ... 20
(while programming: connect only the powerbar which should be programmed, otherwise both powerbars are programmed)

This is only an example configuration; any other numbering can be assigned if you want to. But then make sure that there are no socket numbers twice - then they would switched simultaneousl.y

"i'm setting it up right now like that but the controller only recognizes up to 19 sockets" - i have no idea what you mean.

You can program the START NUMBERING for a digital powerbar. If you program "1" as a start number the powerbar will have sockets 1,2,3,4,5,6 (this is default).
If you program "2" as a start number -> sockets 2,3,4,5,6,7
and so on until 19
if you program "19" as a start number the powerbar will have sockets 19,20,21,22,23,24
Where do we loose here sockets?!?

"the outlets are identical to 1st digital bar and i cannot control them different."
-> you must program different start numbers for them. See manual "Digital powerbars"

I am having some trouble getting my dimmable ballast to turn off. It will Dim untill about 5% and then get brighter (about 30% level) and not turn off, even though the controller says it is at 0%.

I have the black on the ballast connected to the L on the ballast driver blank (In the power supply Ballast 1) , and the white on the ballast going to the N on the ballast driver blank (In the power supply ballast 2). For the Control Lines to Ballasts, I have the + connected to the violet on the ballast, and the - going to the grey on the ballast. Any suggestions?

ok so i feel a little bit stupid but i'm posting this to help others in case they have the same issue. i was settting up the analog and 1st digital powerbar properly but where i was going wrong is once i programmed the 1st digital bar i was daisy chaining the 2nd to it to program the 2nd digital bar. what i figured out laying in bed at 2am was that once the 1st digital bar is programmed i disconnect it from the computer and then hook the 2nd bar into the computer to program it. once both are programmed then you daisy chain them together. hope that makes sense.

Figured it out, I had the control lines backwards (although in the correct order which I had checked several times). So now the ballast will fire and dim correctly, but will shut off when it reached around 20% on the way to full power. I can get it to turn on by unplugging and replugging the Profilux controller, but unplugging and plugging in the ballast does nothing.

Guys,

regarding programming of digital powerbars:
Under "digital powerbars - important hints" can be read:
"When the initial state or the numbering shall be set, only one digital powerbar respectively dosing pump unit may be connected. If several devices would be connected during the programming, all would overtake the new programming!"

Todd,

it seems that the tubes are not operated correctly and the ballast shuts power off in order to protect the tube.
- Check the wiring between ballast and tube
- These wires must be short! usually max. 1 or 2m - should be printed on the ballast or in the datasheet of the ballast

Reefer Bob,

i think this is one of the first powerbars and may have the problem with the high currents at 120V. In this case contact Proline directly, i am sure they will help you. We will replace powerbars of the first generation which are making trouble.
Or is this a powerbar with the "inrush current limiters"? If yes - try to switch your heater with one of the protected sockets.

As far as warranty ,all our dealers service their clients @ the store on the spot ,the faulty items are sent to us & they receive a credit ,unlike many other wholesalers they do not need to apply for an RMA# before giving you an answer. So the decision is theirs & we will support them to do so.
I believe they simply were not aware of the old bar situation .
appreciate it if you can email us a copy of your invoice & return the faulty bar back to the shop for a replacement

Hmmm.... J&L is saying this was Jason's call.

The latest version of the digital power bar works fantastic, and what I've been trying to do since my bar stuck on is get my regular bar upgraded to the same standard.

I'm sure you can understand that my system is completely controlled by the Profilux, so sending in one of my power bars and waiting for a replacement would be difficult.

Since adding the Profilux dosing pump (works great by the way) I have freed up enough sockets so each heater is now plugged into it's own socket, so the problem has not yet repeated itself.

Hi All,

new firmware (beta!) & ProfiLuxControl is available.

- descriptions & comments can be assigned (e.g. to a socket or a 1-10V-interface)
- support for upgrade to Plus II eXtended
- Digital powerbars and dosing pump stations can be programmed with ProfiLuxControl
- new dialog for timer settings
- support for all new ProfiLux models

The firmware for ProfiLux is a beta-version at this moment. This means that there could be bugs (until now i couldn't find one).

ProfiLuxControl is a release version.

I'm new to the Profilux as they have just made it down to Australia. I was just wondering if it is possible to connect ATI Powermodule T5 light fittings that already have dimmable ballasts to the Profilux and make full use of their dimming functionality via the Profilux ? If so, what other hardware do I require and what work is required to hook it all up ?

Hi

I will find out for you no problems, if it is compatible, then you would only need the external interface card, for 240V (Aussie voltage) there are three types.

1. this is just an interface card and requires you to have the lights on a timer as it does not switch the 1-10V completely off at 0V

2. A very handy interface that plugs into any shuko style socket that incorporates the 0V switching as well as the 1-10V interface

3. the EVG card that does it all and also can control two ballasts at one time, this is a PCB module that will require safe mounting.

Either myself or matthias directly will give you an answer if your lighting is compatible

Question about the dosing pump setup.

The instructions say:

"If more than one dosing pump is used Profilux tries to avoid to avoid that the pumps a activated in parallel"

If I dose sodium carbonate 10 times a day and calcium chloride 5 time a day, will the dosing times be spaced as far apart as possible, or could they happen one after the other, with no interval in between?

ProfiLux avoids to dose at the same time but it can't be guaranteed that the intervals between all dosing activities are exactly the same.
But i don't think that this is a major issue.

Aqua-Digital

Hi

The cheapest option is to use the little interface that GHL make, this little box comes with the western lead you require to connect to the profilux, on the other side of the box are screw terminals. which feed the 1-10V interface. But the downside of this option is that it will not turn you lights completely off at 0V, this is caled 0V switching. To over come this you will need to have the lights on a timer that switch the power off at the same time as the ProfiLux dims the lights to the minmum setting.

But the best option is the EVG-AP card, this does all the above in one card, it has relays on it that sense the 0 Volt and then switches the power off, so with this card the 1-10V wires through it interfacing the ProfiLux with the ballasts but also acts as you 0V switching devise, eliminating the need for external timers

Siiri
11-10-2007, 02:50 AM
Thanks for the very speedy reply...

As I'm after the best option it looks like the EVG-AP cards are the way to go. From my own internet searches I believe these cards each connect to 2 ballasts so, please correct me if I'm wrong, I'll need 2 EVG-AP's for a 8 x T5 unit as I believe each ballast runs 2 x T5's. So that I will then be able to run 4 separately dimmable circuits....
Woooo Hoooo....

the nano can be controlled from 4-18w. when converting to volts is that 4-18v

Matthias Gross

I think this is a misunderstanding.
These are 2 different things: output power of the pump (in Watts) and output voltage of the ProfiLux (in Volts).
Maximum output voltage of ProfiLux is 10V -> at this voltage the pump will have the maximum power (18W in your case).
As far as i know the Tunze pumps even have the maximum power at 8V control voltage.

try this.

first get the SSID from your router, to do this you have to go into the router software. i get into mine by putting 10.1.1.1 on the internet explorer bar. wher you would normally put Http//:

go to wireless, you should find the SSID, also make sure that the security of the router says none or off. depends which router you have. i have a Dlink.

Then go to system in the profilux control software.
highlight the WLAN and then go to configuration.

IP setting should be obtain ip automatically

SSID should be teh same as your router.

select adhoc.

press save, if you go back it will show the default settings, dont worry about it.

got to general and select tcp/ip when connect the profilux.

Hello Teejay,

what do you mean with "cannot program it with the buttons on the actual unit"? Do the keys not work? Or don't you know how to operate the unit? If the keys don't work: Maybe while transportation the keyboard got a shock and a key is now clamped. If this would be the case: Open the housing (described in manual) and make sure all keys are free.

WLAN-step by step:
http://www.ghl-kl.de/Produkte/Aquaristik/Download/Tutorial_LAN_WLAN_new_eng.pdf

This doc does not mention the "automatic IP feature", that means from 3.05 on you need not any more to deal with IPs. I think reef explained in a few easy words exactly what has to be done.

1. Connect controller with RS232 to PC, start ProfiLuxControl
2. Connect over RS232
3. Go to system, select WLAN-card
4. Press "Configuration"
5. Now comes the configuration dialog. Enter the SSID of your home network. CHoose ad hoc if you connect from PC directly to ProfiLux, choose infrastructure if you want to have a connection via your router. Press save.
6. Go to "General", press disconnect.
7. Choose "TCP/IP" under connection. Press connect.

That's it!

If you would have wireless network security enabled (like WPA or WEP) then please refer to the doc i mentioned.

@reef:
The dosing pumps have a flow rate of approx. 60ml/min. Due to tolerances of the motor or the pump it is possible that a pump has a different flow rate. You can correct the parameter "flow-rate" if needed. This parameter influences the calculated "on-time", not the speed.
Please see manual chapter "dosing pumps".
Error1: while the first seconds of boot-up ProfiLux can't communicate with View - than Error 1 is displayed. After boot-up is completed View starts to work - no problem
combo-card: there is no place for a print on the rear plate. But with each card is a manual shipped. This manual describes which functions the BNC-plugs have.

Matthias Gross

not correct

you have to adjust the "rate/dosing".

The flow rate describes the used pump. Maybe something between 55 and 65ml.

In your case 1ml. If "dosings per day" = 24 you dose 24ml per day.

Please read the manual. There is everything i wrote in the last posts desribed.

You can control up to 8 dimmable lights independently. Of course more than 8 lights can be controlled (dimmed) but then some of them have to be controlled simultanously (groups of lights).
For your example: Use 8x double-output ballasts -> then you can control 8x2 tubes.

You can control up to 8 dimmable lights independently. Of course more than 8 lights can be controlled (dimmed) but then some of them have to be controlled simultanously (groups of lights).
For your example: Use 8x double-output ballasts -> then you can control 8x2 tubes.

Thanks guys that is exactly what I was after. I was told that the double dimmable ballast is counted as 2.

Hi there,

One of the High-Inrush outlets on the digital powerbar quit on me. Is there any way to try and troubleshoot/fix this myself? It was controlling a single 250 watt magnetic ballast.

The indicator light comes on and I can hear the switch "click" but there is no power to the outlet itself.

There are fuses in the powerbars with inrush current protection.
Maybe this fuse is blown - replace it with exactly this type.
For a test you can simply use a fuse from another socket. Please refer to the powerbar manual.

Thanks for the reply Matthias,

Turns out it is the fuse. Any idea where I can get replacements?

please contact Aqua Digital for a original fuse from GHL

Is there any reason I couldn't just go to an electronics store like radio shack or something and get an 8 amp fuse from them?

Matthias Gross

Hi,

you can do this if you want. But: Please make sure that it's exactly the same type (8A, 125V, time-lag, UL/UR or CSA certificated!).
And we made once the experience that there are fuses available which become very hot. Our fuses are high quality fuses and have a minimum power dissipation.

If technical datas are ok and the fuse doesn't become too hot -> go to an electronics store.

Thank you Matthias,

I am planning on grabbing a full set of GHL fuses from aquadigital. I just want to get this up and running again as quickly as possible!

Hello,

first, I do not speak very well English.

I have profilux II and I have a problem with "dosing pump unit (4)".

I have connected them to the S1-S4 (digital).

Extras-->Dosing Pumps
----------------------
Dosing pump Flowrate Rate/dosing Dosings/day Description

S2.........Dosing pump 2...................B
S3.........Dosing pump 3...................C
S4.........Dosing pump 4
S5.........Timer 1............................T5

I have marked "Digital powerbar connected on S1-S4"

I have pressed the button "Program digital......."

My question:

If it is correct, where the hour of starting is programmed?

Thanks for all.

dosing pump no 4 you have 0 for dosing days, so it wont dose anything.

Thanks, but..

No, the unit number 4 I still do not use it.

But,

unit 1 started to 00:00 hours
unit 2 started to 00:07 hours
unit 3 started to 00:15 hours

all perfect one.

The hour can be changed to start?

Thanks

Hi

in dosing mode the start time can't be changed, the times are calculated automatically. If you want to dose at specific times you have to use a timer instead of the dosing function.

hello,

I have another question (I want to connect two tunze 6055):

I have connected to L1/L2 the module EVG-AP 2F with a single dimmable balasts (L1) and free L2. To L3/L4 I have connected MoonWB (L3) and free L4.

If I buy the module YL2-1 (connected to L3/L4), I can connect MoonWB and a tunze 6055.

how can I connect the other tunze?

thank you

Matthias Gross
12-14-2007, 06:52 AM
you need 2 splitters and 2 cables "ProfiLux-Tunze 2".

Then L2 would be one pump, L4 the other.
Of course the second channel of your EVG-AP would work synchronously to the pump which is connected to L2, but this is not a problem.

If you don't want this you should insert a card with extra 1-10V-interfaces like the PLM-2L4S or PLM-4L.

Hi Mattias

I just received my Profilux Plus II and have a question.

I am have a small problem with the main Profilux Plus II module. The main screen does not light up. The 5 selection buttons the circle with up and down arrows both light up but the information screen does not. Is there something within the program or the module that I need to do.

Hi...

Two queries...

1. I would like to update my firmware from it's current 3.04 to 3.06. To do this do I have to update to 3.05 first or can I go straight to 3.06 ?

2. In the future will it be possible to utilise more than 8 x 1-10v interfaces ?

Thanks for any info.

Siiri

Matthias Gross

@egareef:
in 3.07 we reprogrammed the calculation conductivity <-> salinity <-> density (we made it more precisely with more digits behind the decimal point) and we changed the displayed texts during calibration of the cond. probe

@Siiri:
1. you always can go straight doing an update
2. I don't think so. For what would you need that?

Siiri

Thanks for the swift reply Matthias !!!

I actually have successfully updated my firmware already...

I was just wondering about the number of 1-10v interfaces as I was considering getting your LED Spot Simu and that would take my total to 9 interfaces when I have everything up and running. Thats 4 for lights, 2 for pumps, 1 for fans, 2 for LED Simu. I have decided not to do this as my lights should be able to do all except Lightning which is really a novelty function anyway.

Thanks Again...

Is it possible now to run a Tunze Wave box in the latest version?
3.0.7.1 21.12.2007
If so how should I program it.
In the Extras - pumps Modes or waves

Aqua-Digital

Yes it is

here is a copy of a post from another forum

Just to start a thread to help Wavebox users discard the Tunze controller that came with it!

At least I know the exact resonance value now! haha.

I've read someone's tank of 4' with settings 2s

Mine is 5' so here's the setup

5ft - 1.6s, 1-10v 0-100% Right Angled Short

Okey thanks but i can understand where you hav eput the value in the pump "page"

See my attached image

My new tank will be 3,6feet long and 3feet deep and 2,3 heigh nearly 150gallon

its just my opinion but i think your life would be easier just sticking with the controller the wavebox came with and also it will keep from taking up a port on your controller

Matthias Gross
01-15-2008, 06:09 AM
enter the values in "mode", "duration" and "waves" of the first pump group

the 1-10V-settings have to be done under "extras -> 1-10V-interfaces".
I recommend to set the voltages to Min = 3V and Max = 8V, then the voltage output is similar to the output of the original controller.

and last but not least: Its very helpful to read the manual closely, chapter "current" because we have a lot of options for the current simulation which can be set, many more like the original controller has.

no disrespect to matthias because he is an amazing help but like i said to make your life easier, just stick with the wavebox controller

why use the wavebox controller?

with only a photo-led? it turns off when light is not present.

with the profilux, we can even tune to a lower wave output!

my take, ditch the wavebox controller like me!

Aqua-Digital

As said above

The ProfiLux tunze control features are way above anything you will get with the standard controller.

How much is the Tunze controller? $200? More ?

Tunze1 control cable = $10!!!

There is no comparison taking into acount far advanced control features and cost!

I have been using a Profilux II Plus system for almost a year now. Since I started my tank over a year ago, I have wanted to put in an automatic water change and top-off system. I have been told by my LFS that Profilux may have some equipment under development that may enable me to control this with my Profilux computer.

I have two forty-five gallon drums, one each for RO water and for salt water. The drums are in the basement and the tank is on the first floor. The tank is approximately 40 feet away from tank horizontally. The rise in elevation from the salt water drum is approximately 12 feet and the rise in elevation from the fresh water drum is approximately 7 feet. I have run three runs of ¼ inch water tubing from the tank to the drums (one for fresh top-up and two for water changes (one for salt water and one to get the old water to a drain)). I could also install electrical wire running between the tank and the drums if necessary. I would like to install a couple of pumps (one for salt water and one for fresh water) and then use water level monitors to control fresh water top-up and then set up with automatic water-change so that it changes out two gallons of tank water per day.

Can you tell me whether I can use my Profilux controller for this or whether I will need to purchase a separate computer to do the water-changes and top off?

Thanks in advance,

Aqua-Digital

Hi

This has been available for a long time now.

The best way to achieve this is with the dosing pump assy, you can also acheive this with pumps programmed using the ATO software built into the ProfiLux control.

Drop me an email at sales@aqua-digital.com we are the North American/CAD distributors and can guide you further.

Best wishes
