Just received my new Iwasaki 14k light to use over my little 40g square tank tonight. (Thanks Reefwerkz!!)

After only a couple of hours of use ... all I can say is ... WOW!! Just totally wow.

I was using an Ushio previously, and the Iwasaki is easily 2x or 3x as bright to the naked eye. (To be fair, the Ushio's should be run on M137' pulse-start ballasts, and all I have is a M57. My Ushio has about a year on it as well. The Iwasaki is spec'd out to the M57 though, so unlike the Ushio there are no starting problems whatsoever on the M57.)

The colour is what I would describe as a "perfect 10000K".

The only drawback is that it's pricey compared to other 175's, and hard to find. However if the early indications are anything, they may be worth every penny. Just hope that other people try them, and like them, and when word gets out, it should be easier to find them. And hopefully they'll then come out in other lamp sizes (250W, 400W).

I'll try to get some pics up in the next few days.

Alas, no before shots of the Ushio. Here are some impromptu shots of the Iwasaki though. Was more of a challenge than I thought it would be to get these; most parts overexpose, the light is seriously bright.

After a few days now the colour has settled in a little more, there is just the tiniest subtle hint of blue to the light.
