View Full Version : Acropora Growth pics from my tank

The Acros did not grow as fast as they could have. I've stopped using RO water for top-off since it requires me to connect some hoses to my bathroom's fixture and it was bothersome and time consuming. Since my tap water only has about 5ppm of TDS, I now use just tap water. A few times, I allowed a few gallons of fresh tap water to top up my tank and some corals bleached (I believe due to chlorine). However, they have all recovered and I now run a carbon filter in my top-off reservoir to remove the chlorine from the tap water. Another time, I used almost an entire tube of Tunze epoxy and clouded up the whole tank. Many of the corals bleached. Again, they recovered over time.

These pics represent the sequence from the time I obtained the coral to some time close to the present.

Wow, I seriously must be doing something wrong. That's insane growth, and they all coloured up really well. Impressive!

Wow!

I love your before and after shots!

Do you dose your tank with anything? Which spectrum are you running on your lights?

Hey Thanks. The clams are from Big Al's and they cost a fortune. I hadn't been dosing anything. Just recently started using Kalk. Lights are 10,000K IceCap DE.

Scott, no problem, its 38G w/ a 5G sump that Chin Lee made for me. I'll fix my signature.

Wow that's insane, way to go. You've done a great job for a smaller size tank. I can't get over the growth...

I find the growth rate fairly consistant with my own experiences when my tank is healthy. Lookin' good! Nice pieces.

Yeah, the growth is fine. But the growth would have been better if not for a few months when some acros browned out due to chlorine from fresh tap water and too much Tunze epoxy on separate occassions and no new growth was seen.

Little over 3 weeks later: June 18, 2006 (Due to lack of space, this coral is still at the back of the tank behind the liverocks and not directly under the lights)

I have A Tri-color frag as well. It bleached a bit after I bought it, probably due to the upgrade from the store's lights to my 400 watt MH. It still has it's green hue and polyp extension at night so I'm hoping it will come back soon.

I can relate, it's always something with my tank too. I am still waiting for several pieces to colour back up.
