I have done some reading and every book that I have picked up (2 and counting) has said reef perform best at 75. However, reefcentral posts are saying that 80-82 is the temperature to meet. What temepratures do you keep your tanks at?

Seriak,

I keep mine as close to 78-80 as posisble. One drawback to constant higher temps is algea gorws much better. This can be both macro AND micro. ie bryopsis, other types of hair, turf etc. This is my main reason for going cooler.

I keep mine at 81. No problems with algae.

Mine is at 81 to 82.
I did this recently and have noticed a little better growth in some of my corals and no negitive effects yet. I used to run it at 76 then went to 78 now at 82ish. I did this after reading the many articles as well and to increase my evap, so i can dose more kalk :D

Second what has been said already .... I beleive that the texts that suggest 75 are a bit outmoded/outdated.

The temp in a lagoon can get way more than 75.

The times I've had the presence of mind to check temperatures when I've been diving, once was in GBR (man what a trip) and once in Cancun Mexico, the water was ~26F which works out to 78-79.

FWIW, I run my tanks at about 25.5C/26C (I prefer to think in terms of C ... I am Canadian, darn it, I will use metric and so too should you all out there!!! :D ) which works out to 78. Spikes to ~28 (about 82) on a warm day. 28C/82F is a totally fine temperature IMO.
