so theTSD meters the quality of water that come out of the membrane and after the DI unit. I thought maybe u would test before membrane and then after DI unit

You can plumb the in-line TDS wherever you want.
What I did was I have multiple spots I can put my TDS, I just usevalves in the places the TDS is not currently installed, so I can check anywhere I want.

tds tests for disolved solids in water. doesnt matter what water you test it will tell you in ppm what the condition of your water is. its a good idea to test your source water as well as your production water.

And high tds = algae and/or diatom growth, right? Anything else important that you learn from it?

You learn about when to replace your various RODI cartriges, and the membrane itself.
