View Full Version : Purple up causing problems?
I'm not having any problems, but Seashells mentioned it in another thread, and I didn't want to threadjack.
I have used Purple up on a couple of small tanks that I have set up and never had a problem. My belief is that it is a lot the same as Aragamilk and that it is basically a one part calcium/alk. mixture. I still add it occasionally to my 12g Nano at work and have never had problems in this tank.

Have never used it.
Quoted from http://www.southbroadwaytropicals.com/ItemPages/SWConditioners.htm here's what's in it...
"Purple-Up™ is a new pink and purple coralline algae accelerator. Since Purple-Up™ is not a fertilizer, it does not promote the growth of nuisance algae. How does it work? Purple-Up™ uses a unique dual method approach to coralline algae acceleration. It contains ionic calcium which immediately raises dissolved calcium levels in your aquarium water. At the same time Super Sea Calcium™ (a 10 micron aragonite powder derived from natural seawater) targets the live rock surface. Super Sea Calcium™ dissolves in situ; delivering calcium, strontium, magnesium, and carbonate right where it’s needed.
Purple-Up™ also replenishes iodine; an essential element for coralline algae tissues that quickly becomes depleted in closed systems."

I have seen some comments on reef central. Wheather purple up actually caused a problem or it was something else I can't say. I have never tried it.

I have been using purple up for a couple months now. I have not had any problems with it. I use it to raise my calcium levels and I use a kalk drip to maintain calcium/alk. In my opinion it has hepled coraline growth in my tank.
