View Full Version : moray identification
I rescued a moray yesterday, although unfortunately, that is the only name the owner knew for it. Bought from Big Al's a few years ago, browninsh in color, small head, about 1-1.5" high, and .5-.75" in width.
Looking for some good common species of morays to start looking through fishbase to identify, until I get my digital working.
Eats free-floating frozen baby shrimp, so I was told. I'll find out tonight for sure...

:) ya they're very cool.Im planning on doing more reading on them and maybe getting a Snowflake when my 90g is up and running.
Okay, feeding these things is seriously cool. It's like a snake taking a rat - incredible sense of smell.
Got some video's here....can anyone identify him for me?
Thanks,
Dunl

Hard to tell with those videos,it moves to fast to get a good look.Maybe try RC.Or if you can get a still pic of it,I can help search for a match.
Okay. I'll try to lure him out again tonight, and see if I can keep him from getting the shrimp too quickly.
If that works, and he has to search for it, I might be able to get a good video of him.....
Slowed it down as much as I could......

Maybe check out Gymnothorax polyuranodon.
Okay, got another response. And I'm thinking it does look like Gymnothorax tile quite a bit, the freshwater moray.
Thanks for the help.
