ok here is my problem I have a 170 gal reef tank that is starting out in there have softies, leathers, a few others and will be addign sps in ther along with clams.

My tank is 60x27x24 bare bottom with a center brace. I currently have 2x48"T-5's running on a ice cap 660 with a hagen glo-mat that is running 2x 48" Normal actinic's.

Now I can either go 2x250 14K or go with the 2x400 14K

now what ballast would you go with
pulse start for higher Kelvin rated bulbs too
tar well run anything.
eye but that one is made to run iwasaki's

If I go with the 400 w 14K i'm thinking that woud be all i would need is the 14K i might even run the normal actinic just for the evening viewing for 2 hrs..

SO would i still be able to keep SPS and clams in a 24" tank with 250's that is the problem

If 27" is your depth you are looking at 250's driven by a HQI ballast or 400's get which ever one is cheepest for ya.
If 24" is the depth I would still look at 250HQI ballast driving SE bulbs or the 400.. same as befor which ever is cheepest and has the bulbs you want.

Oh and if you go 400 get a pulse start ballast.
