This might seem extreme, but if you find one or two of these little buggers, here is a cure. No Shrimp, no Juice, chemicals or otherwise.
I went do Canadian Tire and bought a mini tiger torch. (The ones that have a small blue flame about 1-2" in length. I took the rock with the offending coral and torched the crap out of the one small cavern that it was in. Not a sign of it is left. And as far as regrowth is concerned, nothing grows from carbon >:)
Now, before someone says nay about this. I can tell you I have 2 of these one a rock COVERED in zoo's. I lost no zoos. Because the flame from this torch is very precise, it just cooked the aptasia. REALLY RECOMMENDED.

That might work if you can remove the rock from your reef.. :wink:

I've thought of doing the same but never bothered. Glad someone tried it & posted their positive results.

Wear gloves, eye and a thick jacket if your going to be doing this on a regular basis. I don't know if you've ever seen what happens when you heat rock, concrete or anything pouros just a little too much.

Very minimum........ Protect your eyes! (The other shrapnel wounds will make for a great story.)

Good advice for anything you do with power or hand tools. I wouldn't expect Live rock to react like concrete as it is an open pour type and concrete is a closed pour type but still good advice as it is always possible..

An acetylene torch whould work the same eh?

Heck if you had an oxy-acetylene torch, you could do it with the rock under water!!

not quite Acetylene will leave a soot deposit which might not be that good for the tank.

Good point. I guess oxygen-hydrogen torches are out of our price range ;)

haha! that's hilarious!

I've also thought, what if you were to smother the little buggers one by one with 2 part epoxy? just erase them? :)

would solve not being able to take the rock out of the water.

and you just break off the epoxy from the rock a few months later if you don't like it being there.

i had about 200 aptasia's, put in one peppermint shrimp and every single one was gone in a week. :D

one med size copperband butterfly took out all mine in 3 days. Amazing

Some people can't keep peppermints, eg. people who keeps ric's or triggers.

This is like the last thing I'd ever buy to control Aiptasia. Too difficult for most people and a flat out mistake for anyone with less than 72 gallons of water.

But yeah, solutions to Aiptasia come in all forms. Personally, I use psychic laser beams.

They're finicky and can often refuse to eat, Aiptasia notwithstanding. I know a lot of people have some very robust CBB's out there, but we're talking low numbers in relation to what's actually purchased.

I'm not slamming your post or anything, just making sure people can see all sides of the problem.
