I am thinking about using my 100 gal tank as a sump for my going to be 140 gal reef tank and am going to hav a refugium in the sump. what do you guys think? is it to much or is bigger better.

If you have the space & equipment to run it; give'r! Invest in a proper lighting & do some research, you could have a nice set-up.

You can use Phillips Daylight 27w CFL bulbs over a refugium with good success. Chaeto & other macro grow really well with this light. That'll make a great size for your sump/refugium.

I agree that if you have the space bigger is usually better as it is provides more water and is more forgiving of some of those oops that we all seem to have.

THat is just the size tank I am looking for a sump, so it you have the room sounds like a great idea:idea: With a 72x18x18 ( aprox.100gallons) I would have both a refugium and the frag area in the sump, so your 48" 260watt PC light would be great!

You could do a 2ft fuge, a 2ft frag area, and a 2ft area for skimmer & return area. (depending on the size of your skimmer though)

Then your 48" light would be perfect.
